    Statement of understanding reserve timing

George - Please let us know how being struck by lightning feels! Canucksfan - If you take a peek around these forums, in particular asking questions regarding "When will X happen" for recruiting, you'll get a similar answer - It'll happen when it happens (or not happen, etc). Outside of someone...

Army Junior Staff Officer (AJSO) Course

Much appreciated - I'll have to take a look at it when I get into work!

    Team sports in infantry battalions

Exactly.  Some Battalions make a big deal about playing hockey or other sports but ultimately you'll be noted for what kind of a leader you are as opposed to how many goals you scored playing "X".  It was pretty entertaining to hear during my own DP 1.2 that hockey was supposedly a big deal -...

    DEO likelihood for Int?

I believe I remember hearing from Strike here on the forums regarding the likelihood of DEO candidates going into Public Affairs.  I'm sure she'll chime in with clarification, but in general you need to have fairly impressive credentials in the field to be considered for DEO.  More details...

    Questions About Recruitment

It may be somewhat surprising, but if you are unwilling to make yourself a viable candidate, there are lots of viable ones who will be selected before you will.  So from the looks of things you've answered your own question (shrugs).  Not sure what else you expect at this point.

    Different location

A few questions before we can really try and answer this one: Were you wanting to go Reg Force, or Reserve? (you listed one reserve Regiment being close, but PPCLI is a Reg Force Regiment). Officer or NCM? You can apply to the Regular Forces at any recruiting center (there is no need to do any...

    Questions About Recruitment

He was politely referring you to the wonderful "search" option above. Most of the people on the boards have no issues helping out with questions that come up, but after seeing the same question many times tend to be a bit less forgiving for people who have not taken the time to find their own...

    Personality Type

While personality tests are useful tools for self-reflection and perhaps insight into how others might think, at the end of the day you will be working with professionals with a wide variety of "personalities".  A good piece of advice I received: "Just be you - as long as you HAVE a personality...

    Changing Fields

Strongly agree with Teager. While there are options to change trades later on in your career, they are by no means a viable thing to base your career around.  Having done the paperwork for a few OT's, understand it is not as simple as "I want a new trade!", especially if the CF has invested the...

All things GPS (recommendations, tips, etc.) - merged

Might be a moot response, but:  I'm a pretty big fan of the Garmin Fenix and it replaced a stolen Garmin Foretrex 401.  It's small, compact, and can take its fair share of abuse.  The only disadvantage I've found is it has its own unique method of charging (Via USB, which requires a power...

    April 27th BMOQ

Not sure exactly what you mean by your question - Officers complete BMOQ, NCMs do BMQ. Are you referring to selection, or in numbering at CFLRS? (the another for both is no - many platoons are run through simultaneously, and the numbering reflects the current number they have processed that...

    CADPAT winter whites

Again, I don't personally have it - but I can confirm I've seen a few floating around 1 VP. Ill see if I can nab a picture while out in Wainwright.

    Infantry Officers' regimental postings

I was on the course that ran last summer - we had around 40%, which was the lowest it had been in a long time. 50-55% was not unusual in the past.

    DEO 2013 financial year

Standard capacity was around 40 Officer Cadets per Platoon on BMOQ - but I wouldn't worry too much about the numbers, as they can always run more then one course. I've seen as many as 4 courses run simultaneously, not to mention they may stagger them out over the year.

    Not meeting physical requirments

Brihard summed it up well. BMQ is far to short a period to make any massive gains in fitness - you should go into your training able to comfortably meet the requirements. I've seen many people convinced they would be able to meet the standards once they got there (or felt that being able to do...

    Infantry fit?

(Grins)  At the risk of it being taken as one-up manship - the 13k wasn't particularly hard on basic either. It was the 16k uphill after 10 days of little to no sleep when all your kit is water-logged and you've become the dude who is carrying your Pl's Extra C6 rounds that your fitness and...

What Testing Decides Top Athlete in BMQ?

Agreed. From those of us who have been through the process, Top Athlete might look really appealing at the time, it ultimately has little bearing on your career in the future. Something to aspire to, but not the most critical thing to focus on. To the best of my knowledge, it will be determined...

    Infantry fit?

I'd say you were in a good place to undertake training. I was around your level before my training begun and I never had much issue with the purely physical aspects of the training (granted I was doing INF O, rather then NCM training - but they would be physically comparable).  What you can take...
