AAD and NGS (split from JSS Amphib Capability thread)

I would assume so, yes. That's the location of modular payload bay, according to the DND site. I don't really know much about the vessel's capabilities (yet) but it seems possible from the little I know.

AAD and NGS (split from JSS Amphib Capability thread)

When you metinoned this, I immediately thought of the MCDV's modular payload system, I can imagine having 120 mortars mounted on them and in essence creating a coastal gunboat squadron on the cheap. I do not know anything about structural issues that may be involved, but it's a thought.

Should the Canadian Coast Guard be armed?

And how often does this happen in real life? The Native fisheries get a bit riled up, I know, but then the RCMP has jurisdiction there and gets involved with that situation. Militarizing is a major undertaking. Essentially you are starting a new service, on existing ships. New policies...

Should the Canadian Coast Guard be armed?

I do not in any way claim expert knowledge here, just internet research, a very short stint on the CCGS Daring, and a former friend in the RNLI. I gladly bow to your years of service. The two European forces I looked at Spain and Sweden, may be the exceptions, then. My impression of them and...

Should the Canadian Coast Guard be armed?

I've seen several posts in various threads that have asked the question about arming the Coast Guard. Frankly, I don't see the point. Why militarize a civilian organization? It's like arming lifeguards and forcing them to be police. Other nations do not consider their CG to be military or even...

Terrorism in London England: What would we do if something like this happened in Toronto?

Heh, I remember those. Spooky sound. Lots of strategically valuable targets, but Toronto is the most internationally visible. I mean, an attack in GB on Hull or Rosyth just doesn't have the oomph of an attack on London, now does it? Toronto is the financial center of Canada, bonus points for a...

Canadian Forces Aptitude Test (CFAT) [MERGED]

One of the trades I most respect are the cooks. Unsung heroes, in my books. What in heck would we do without them? Damn fine job potential once released, too. Nonetheless, if you get a GED preparation book (go to any bookstore, about $20) and take the math and english pre-tests. Brush up on the...

Are we prepard for a terrorist attack or any other attack

CTD, can I request you break up your paragraphs? You have good stuff to say, but one huge block of text makes it tough to plow through. Thanks.

Terrorism in London England: What would we do if something like this happened in Toronto?

As a City/Province/Nation we would survive, and we would become wiser citizen's of the West. An attack, from someone, somewhere is inevitable I'm sure. And large scale disaster control is not out of the reach of the T.O emergency services. There have been things like the subway collision, subway...

    NavRes BOTC changes?

I had heard a rumour that the NavRes IAP/BOTC had been changed to a new format this year, perhaps shortened to 8 weeks plus some time at the NRD. Does anyone have any info on this? Just curious, my re-enlistment is dragging on and I won't get in until after the summer.

Leaving Children For Training, Etc. -Merged

Bingo. You nailed it right there.  Kirsten, sounds like you have done a stellar job. Nonetheless, if the option is there, it's always better to have two parents. It is never more desireable to have one parent absent, unless that parent is a negative influence when they are home (i.e. alcoholic...

Leaving Children For Training, Etc. -Merged

I do. Both personal and professional. REJ, as others have stated your child will survive your absences but of course there are concerns, and I'm delighted to see you taking some time to investigate the possible consequences. My unsolicited .02 is if you have the choice, it's best to wait until...

U.S. Military Deserters in Canada Megathread

Army is Army, be full or part time. Just like our Militia, if war is declared and you have signed on, you go or if you must object, stand your ground and take your lumps like a man. That's the USANG agreement, just like us. Deserting is for conscripts and cowards IMO. Baloo: Gotta say I hate...

    Canadians training ANA in Kabul

Yeah, I suppose some people may read that into this - that point is poorly written I think. I for one didn't read it that way. I figured the Afghans had to be taught to discriminate a bit as opposed to what they were previously taught or did. I have no idea if this is the case, but it's what I...

    Defending Canadian Arctic Sovereignty

Decent long-ish article about the Canadian Rangers in today's Toronto Star. I've never seen anything in mainstream media about them before. Seems pretty accurate, judging from the CanRangers I've known. [ Article ] Audio Slideshow here: (link didn't work out, edited to remove. Find it beside...

    Cold War Memories

That would be an interesting place to visit. Memories indeed. I still remember doing civil defence air raid drills when I was in public school. Any one else remember those? ( hint - you'll have to be well over 40.)

Military Making Pitch to Aboriginal Youth ($1,200 bonus for aboriginals)

I understand that. No problem here. But I honestly think that the majority of non-natives really don't get the picture. A down and out white person has it tough of course, but native people have to overcome lots more as a rule, then the average non-native. And a lot of northern Natives are...
