Government hints at boosting Canada’s military spending

Except, those people want full time employment, not a few weekends a year, and some "training" nights. I spend a fair amount of time talking to people in the food service industry... None of them want a "part-time" job with the CAF on top of their three other jobs. Imagining otherwise is just...

    Maritime Coastal Defence Vessels (MCDVs)

RCN Flower Class ships were named for towns and cities, just like our CPFs and MCDVs. It would be pretty easy to come up with a few names to use for the CDC that have long use histories in the RCN.

Meet the GM Defense ISV Army Truck

We have "blue fleet" cars, vans, and trucks for that work, they are commercial fleet vehicles just like every company buys. I have driven many F-250s, E-250s, and other versions of that sort of vehicle over the years. We aren't running major projects for blue fleet vehicles. The ISV/ISV-H are...

    Maritime Coastal Defence Vessels (MCDVs)

Latest I have heard is the RCN does not want any helo capability for the CDC, so I suspect they will need to go back to the drawing board for that. It makes sense to me, as helo ops add a huge amount of cost and complexity to a ship.

Dragoons are mounted infantry, so keep the names as battalions of the Western Infantry Regiment.

High Speed Train Coming?-split from boosting Canada’s military spending"

I was about to make a similar point. HSR doesn't take the Napanee-Kingston cars off the road or the Brighton-Belleville cars, but it does reduce the Ottawa-Toronto cars, as well as provide an alternative to the YOW-YYZ travellers. The current VIA service makes a trip to Toronto from Ottawa a...

Meet the GM Defense ISV Army Truck

85% commercial off-the-shelf parts, from the company that makes the commercial off-the-shelf parts. I'm a fan of supporting local, and GM also makes things in Canada. I also think the Senator is a step up size wise compared to the ISV-H, so they aren't really direct competitors.

    Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

As I pointed out, all opposition parties do this, so don't pretend it's unique to PP or the CPC. It's cheap politics, but it's what they all do. Also, as I specified previously, they only play this game when the government won't fall in a confidence motion. If the LPC was going to fail a...

    Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

They're doing what all opposition parties do, voting against the government on things that will pass without their votes... Pretending it's a uniquely CPC thing is disingenuous. If it was a confidence motion with a fear the newly elected government would fall, the LPC and CPC would be working...

Government hints at boosting Canada’s military spending

Depends... For development of kit, South Korea, UK, Norway, Sweden, France, and Germany. For continental defence, obviously the USA. We can have many partners, rather than just being a sockpuppet of the USA.

    Hamas invaded Israel 2023 Megathread

You're arguing as an idealist, unfortunately the real world isn't ideal. Your arguments would be the ones that saw the allies stop invading Europe in WWII because of the covilian suffering the invasion caused. There is no way to wage war without innocent people getting hurt. Sometimes the...

    Hamas invaded Israel 2023 Megathread

Like Hamas does to control Gazans and prevent them from reporting their terrorist activity? Let's ask a serious question: Which is worse, Hamas using food as a weapon to prevent Gazans from ousting them, or Israel controlling the food supply so Hamas loses its ability to control Gaza through food?

    Hamas invaded Israel 2023 Megathread

What is your proposal then? More of what Israel tried when they left Gaza to the Gazans? That got them Oct 7th... The victor handing out supplies on their terms is how it works in war. Hamas has so deeply infiltrated the UN agencies in the area that they cannot be trusted, so Israel has to...

Particularly to governments that can't afford the high-end boutique kit coming out of the traditional armored vehicle companies. Could be the Chevrolet to BAE's more traditional Buick and Cadillac vehicles.

    Political impacts of Ukraine war

Having an opinion, and engaging in state-on-state politics aren't the same thing in any way. If the Atlantic Baptist Convention was a soverign state, and wanted to engage in state-on-state politics, I'd have the same opinion of their actions as well. I'd still rather see them stick to having...

    Political impacts of Ukraine war

Its not welcome in my view. The Catholic Church should stick to be a church, and leave international politics to the secular powers. Many wars have been fought to keep the church out of politics.

Indirect Fires Modernization Project - C3/M777 Replacement

Again, I'm not against automation. I'm just against automation where it doesn't belong. In reality, the C-130 and it's crew is far more valuable than any arty platform. So if it's safe enough to put a C-130 there, it's safe enough to put an arty crew in to shoot the guns/tubes. How much more...

Indirect Fires Modernization Project - C3/M777 Replacement

The simple answer is vehicles break, and get stuck... Three dudes in a CP JTLV aren't going to be enough to get a convoy of autonomous vehicles unstuck. Complex terrain needs human drivers, and lots of human power to fix things when things go wrong.

    The Arctic

In fairness to Alert, it does a lot of things beyond SigInt. The world depends on the Met data produced by ECCC up there, as well as the Met data provided by the CAF. Many OGDs have sensors there that require maintenance and monitoring.
