I've also run an Aimpoint on AKs, Sigs, FNs, and M4s here. It's personal preference which is better Eotech or Aimpoint. If buying a new aimpoint I'd go for the M3 with 2MOA. The M2's 4MOA dot is a bit large at long distances.
If you really love your brother, buy him a Short Dot ;D
"First off, if he needed one, he would have been issued one. "
You don't NEED any sort of optics, but they make fighting a bit easier. He's probably got an C79 on his rifle...junk.
"Third, do you really want to spend +$350 US on a weapons sight he may only use for the next 4-6 months?"
I...
If you are on a camp in Iraq, you are not really in a 'safe' zone especially the smaller FOBs or private compounds. There are locals working all over the place. If it were safe you wouldn't need your weapon. Police don't unload their weapons everytime they walk into a building, why should...
::)
Why would you want to carry around a weapon that doesn't have a round in the chamber? It is not "instantaneous availability and functionality of the weapon" if you have to action the weapon before firing.
Most NDs happen when there are BS rules like loading/unloading weapons at camp...
I wouldn't run anything but ball in a BHP. I had several stoppages using hollowpoints especially ones with a wide blunt nose.
Legally I believe CF soldiers can only carry ball ammo. I carry Speer Gold Dot in my mags.
Nobody should be carrying JUST a pistol around unless they are inside a relatively safe camp.
As Kevin said most of the people carrying pistols aren't competent with them anyways. Issue them to everyone and implement a basic Fighting/Tactical pistol class prior to deployment with high round...
Hahahhaha. The IP/IA/Mahdi Army/Badr Corps controls Basrah, not the Brits.
A year ago the Brits were bragging about their successes in the South, now they have no hold on their own AOR.
Keld actually donated his to burn, being the ultimate kit slut he is. 5.11 poly/cotton mix clothing melts like a plastic garbage bag.
Mixed feelings on UA/ 5.11 underwear. For light infantry & DA shit I'd say go for it. For PSD and convoy where you are just waiting to get IED'd, I prefer the...
If you end up buying your own, get Altas with buckles. Dave's even sells them in CADPAT now.
The issued Hatch ones aren't the best, but they do the job and when they fail you can just get new ones.
Here's an idea, take statements from all the soldiers involved, if the stories jive give them the benefit of the doubt, tell em "Good Job" and close the investigation.
Only in Canada does shit like warning shots and dead suspect VBIED's make the news.
I know the current situation is horrible, but someone in a leadership position needs to push for larger ammo budgets. 120 or 500 rds per year is unacceptable. Like Infidel said, if you want an army you have to pay for it.
500 rounds a year? Ideally troops would hit the range once per week and go through a basic load minimum. Shooting skills are perishable and 1.5 rounds a day isn't going to keep them up.
Ammo is cheap in the scheme of things especially if you buy from someone other than IVI.
Are the savages using thermal optics now?
Depending on your mission- breaching tools, urban hide kit, many grenades, DDs, low powered optics to locate en...
