I've also run an Aimpoint on AKs, Sigs, FNs, and M4s here.  It's personal preference which is better Eotech or Aimpoint. If buying a new aimpoint I'd go for the M3 with 2MOA.  The M2's 4MOA dot is a bit large at long distances. If you really love your brother, buy him a Short Dot  ;D

With a rear BUIS you can still use your irons with an Eotech, Aimpoint, Short Dot...whatever.

I wouldn't run anything but ball in a BHP.  I had several stoppages using hollowpoints especially ones with a wide blunt nose. Legally I believe CF soldiers can only carry ball ammo.  I carry Speer Gold Dot in my mags.

If you end up buying your own, get Altas with buckles.  Dave's even sells them in CADPAT now. The issued Hatch ones aren't the best, but they do the job and when they fail you can just get new ones.

I know the current situation is horrible, but someone in a leadership position needs to push for larger ammo budgets. 120 or 500 rds per year is unacceptable.  Like Infidel said, if you want an army you have to pay for it.

500 rounds a year? Ideally troops would hit the range once per week and go through a basic load minimum.  Shooting skills are perishable and 1.5 rounds a day isn't going to keep them up. Ammo is cheap in the scheme of things especially if you buy from someone other than IVI.
