Self Defence in Canada (split from Gun Control 2.0)

There's nothing in the article, or others, including the press release from Kawartha Lakes Police, that mentions a firearm being used/carried by either party.

Barred entry into USA for training

Do you know if the member you speak of ever returned to the US to deal with the matter? If so, what was the outcome? Years ago (mid-1990's I'm going to guess) one of my soldiers who was a Canadian Permanent Resident was denied entry to the US for an exercise. We were informed prior to...

Barred entry into USA for training

Not sure exactly how it works going into the US, but the regulations here allow for persons who would normally be inadmissible to be allowed entry under narrow exceptions by being issued a Temporary Resident Permit.

Barred entry into USA for training

My reply was more general in nature, hence my use of the phrase "NATO or otherwise". I'm quite sure these days a CAF member with serious criminality might be denied entry to the US even if traveling "on orders". When I did these requests about 15 years ago we were required to submit a Visit...

Barred entry into USA for training

It is. I used the term "immigration" because the IRPA and IRPR apply not only to those who wish to take up residence here (immigrants) but those who wish to visit Canada for personal, educational or business reasons, including military business. An example would be a foreign armed forces...

Barred entry into USA for training

A passport (blue, green or red) is the only true universally accepted proof of citizenship. Anyone who gets bounced or, worse, detained at an international border, NATO or otherwise, because "I'm on military business and I only have to show you my NTO and ID card" deserves it. As a military...

Barred entry into USA for training

DACA recipients are currently barred from US military service, but there is a bill sponsored by two US Congressmen to reverse that.

Barred entry into USA for training

There's a ton of restrictions under DACA. Have you looked into the avenue of voluntarily surrendering your DACA status and possibly being able to return to the US as an normal visitor? That is, of course, if you are not deemed criminally inadmissible due to your misdemeanor conviction? As...

"RCMP union pushes for change to help force attract talent from U.S., other countries"

Some learned behaviours cannot be trained/re-trained away. As Booter alluded to, having transplanted big city US street cops wrap their heads around our use-of-force model may be a bridge too far.

"RCMP union pushes for change to help force attract talent from U.S., other countries"

The current RCMP PR residency requirement of three out of five years actually exceeds what a PR needs to meet under IRPA 28(2)(a) of 730 days in a five year period to maintain their status as a PR. However, in order to apply for citizenship, the three years (1095 days) in five years is...

BHP replacement project - C22 Pistol megathread

I had looked at one of those before the Liberal grown-ups decided I couldn't be trusted with any more handguns. It didn't have great reviews at the time. The price was pretty up there for a SA hammer fired pistol similar to one I already owned so I didn't give it a really serious consideration.

BHP replacement project - C22 Pistol megathread

I have a FN BHP built in Montreal in 1947 with the wildly optimistic 350 metre adjustable rear sight. Cosmetically, it's not pretty but it shoots damned good for a 78 year old pistol.

Consideration for the Victoria Cross - Afghanistan
