Potential Changes to Soldier Qualification Course

I've heard that they're spliting up the training so that some of the SQ material is taught on the BMQ and some will be taught when you go on your trade training course.  Since non-Cbt Arms NCO's don't go on the PLQ Land course, they do CF PLQ, that should be interesting.  I doubt they're able to...

Potential Changes to Soldier Qualification Course

This is something that is being pushed down from higher, if I had the directive from CTC I'd post it but its on my computer in my office.  Part of the problem is that dirrections are being issued but they're open to interpretation, so you don't get standardized training which is an issue.  Also...

Potential Changes to Soldier Qualification Course

When it comes to courses where the candidates are assessed on a number of things (ie. PLQ), we aren't changing much except the scenarios the exercises are based on. When it comes to courses where the students are there to learn skills, we aren't going to wait for the system to catch up to...

Infantry Officer - 2005 Posting Preference

Good post, as a B Class guy most of the info I gather is from different sources but it is hard to check out the info sometimes. From what I've seen and heard, everyone tends to agree that the Patricia NCO's are advancing faster then the RCR NCO's.  I've got a Sgt in my platoon from 3VP who was...

Potential Changes to Soldier Qualification Course

All the troops on the course are Reg Force, non-Infantry.  It is possible that the only time in their career that they will be exposed to this kind of training is on the SQ course. I understand that, that is a lot of material to cover but really there is lots of time on the 7 week course to...

    The Gagetown Thread- Merged

There isn't much to do in Gagetown, if you don't have a car consider bringing a bike if you have one. As far as non-issue kit goes, that varies from Coy to Coy and from Pl to Pl.  If it stands out then it could be an issue.  I've been a course officer at AATC for over a year now.  We let thins...

Potential Changes to Soldier Qualification Course

I'm the course officer for two Reg Force SQ courses this Spring/Summer.  I've run one Reg SQ course (Summer 04) and a bunch of Reg PLQ courses.  This past Fall some direction came down from CTC that we are to "modernize" courses.  This includes ROE's, non-Combatants on the battlefield amongst...

    Canadian Military's Dirty Little Secret

When they state the Hardship and Risk pay levels in the Routine Orders they have the ones for Iraq.  I think the Risk level is the highest but the Hardship level is a level below Sierra Leone. The RCMP and CSIS are active in countries where most Canadians, soldiers and policemen don't think...

    Canadian Military's Dirty Little Secret

I went to a briefing today on US Army Lessons Learned from OIF and US Army Transformation. The presenter was a Cdn LCol posted to TRADOC as the CDN LO. Turns out this guy was an exchange officer with the 3rd Inf Div just before, throughout and asfter OIF. I think he said he was the Chief...

    Insoles - Cost of Orthotics

I paid about $300 but over 80% was covered by my health insurence. I wear mine on runs and they're great, just make sure you try on lots of different types of shoes with your insoles.  I tried on about 10 pairs at the Running Room before finding a pair that matched up well with my orthotics.

Primary Leadership Qualification Course (PLQ) Mega thread

As an Lt who has run 2 X CF PLQ, 2 X PLQ Land, 1 X Inf 2B and now currently running the new PLQ Infantry my opinion is that we have too many standards. Everyone in the CF (NAVY, Air Force and Army) except for the Infantry should do that Land course.  The CF PLQ is garbage, I've lost a lot of...

Infantry Reserve in Gagetown Infantry school

Watch yourself at the Infantry School as a reservist.  A lot of behaviour that is accepted at reserve units is not at the Infantry School, I've seen some troops get burned while on callouts there. Be professional at all times, don't ever be late, watch your dress and deportment and if you're...

Infantry Officer - 2005 Posting Preference

If you go RCR then theres a good chance you'll spend a portion of your time in Gagetown.  It could be at 2RCR, the Infantry School or somewhere else on base.  There are Reg Force Captains at pretty well every Reserve unit in Canada also.

    Infantry Corp Update

I don't have any dope on the reservists, but when 2RCR was doing all of their high speed training a couple of years ago they had a bunch of reservist augmentees in different positions throughout the battalion (including rifleman).

Courcelette Urban Ops Trg Site in Gagetown

The main purpose of Courcelette is to conduct "individual" training.  It is not setup to conduct tactical exercises.  Currently Austere Village is being used for tactical exercises but it is owned by the CF School of Mil Engineering and it is not really designed as an Infantry training site. ...

    Infantry Corp Update

This attachment has some interesting information.  I encourage all infantryman to read it. I talked to LCol Melancon about a few of the topics in there (mainly officer trg) back in January.  As an officer who works in the training system, modularization is the key word.  Most courses are being...
