Some tracked vehicles are deceivingly quiet.
The ones with full rubber tracks especially so.
I saw a prototype hybrid system that was for all intents and purposes silent when on electric drive
These days with modern integrated headset earpro/comms and helmets, it’s hard to justify not...
The concern I have is that you will end up with a less than optimal number of F-35 and keep them longer than reasonable (just like the CF-18 and CPF and etc etc. )
The problem isn’t AJAX so much as the modular armor package the UK insists on
It’s fairly unreasonable to expect a vehicle to accept well over 1/3rd of its GVW in armor and function well in either ‘mode’. I liken it to wondering why people complain a soft top vehicle is colder in the winter...
I was hoping Canada was going to go that direction. Earlier this year there was pretty much of a zero lack of interest.
Pretty much every NATO SOF is pulling their country into High Pressure ammunition and realistically that take better barrels and some other things (NDA limited here).
TBFH the GoC has boned rotary wing in the CAF for years.
The Griffon is a turd, and was really obsolete at adoption. It was utterly a Political Buy Canadian regardless of capability program. The life extension program should have been into the UH-1Y but that’s Ft Worth Tx not Mirabel...
They got the forges in the 80’s. So 40 years.
There are cold hammer forges in operation from the 60’s still working.
Unless Colt Canada has been doing absolutely no maintenance on them, I don’t understand how they could be possibly EoL.
Unless they need a newer design forge to work on...
While a Suppressed 11.5” may be as long as a 16” C8 SFW it is quieter, and doesn’t flash as much.
Suppressors are a must have item at this point in combat.
The longer barrel isn’t really more effective.
Yes.
The first DART tasking was to Rwanda upon the standup - it however spent no time in Rwanda (outside the PPCLI) and was staying in Uganda for over 30 days. (not to be confused with either the previous 3 CDO and JTF deployments to Rwanda nor those of folks on UN duty)
I have heard it...
It is a very interesting field - the concept isn't new - but the ARC is a specific small specialized cargo system - but others are looking at non orbital stationed items.
I know enough to know that the ARC loitering orbital drop ship won't work for humans (unless you tied it into a ISS type...
Could or Should? ;)
To me the question about support requirements has always been what does the CA want to be when it grows up.
Finally the symmetrical Bde's have been defeated - which was the first step. The SPA, and the Not a Tank vehicle for the tankless Armoured units, as well will the...
Flashbacks to the original DART deployment fiasco for Rwanda.
The CA took weeks of discussions and prep - and when it came time to out the door, the entire load plan ran into the RCAF as there where things the RCAF wasn’t going to do for the CA in terms of #’s and what can or cannot go...
This is the part of the Venn diagram where you, @ytz and I all overlap.
Canada has defined a GRTF currently, as 1 x LIB (based on various GoC websites and releases).
It has defined a time frame for deployment, ( I am reliably told it has ).
* I looked for NTM and NLT’s but haven’t found...
