    Trump administration 2024-2028

It was funny how many finally changed tunes when it impacted them. Noticed a few MAGA 2024 flags in the Pet area are now Canadian flags, and changed right around when the tariffs etc started to kick in.

    Trump administration 2024-2028

Good to know he thinks the SCOTUS decision can be swayed by a tv ad during baseball.

    Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

You don't need to Canadianize anything, it's just the size of the contract and dollar value means all kinds of international trade agreements apply, which adds a lot of process. The dollar values also adds a lot of internal processes, which is likely most of the delay, but defence doesn't have...

    Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

I really wish they would apply the national security exemption more option, it's the normal procurement requirements and terms of international treaties around normal government procurement that add in a lot of delays and prescriptive procurement requirements that dont' really make sense for a...

Air force defends bonus pay system as pilots file dozens of grievances, refuse promotions

Why not change most of the Maj and other Snr officer jobs pilots are doing to something else, and let them keep flying? I can see unit CO positions making sense, and a few other limited ones, but no reason pilots should be doing project management jobs (frequently poorly).

    Maritime Coastal Defence Vessels (MCDVs)

CDC hulls? Zero hulls in the next 5 to 10 years (possibly ever). Probably will have an initial River class going through IOC, plus the 2 JSSs rolling through IOC/FOC, while also likely having some CPFs self retire. Building more Orcas without design changes and with the same major equipment...

    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

I absolutely hate this. We retired the MCDVs and kept this deathtrap? Hope some Admiral is happy.

If it's not already in the specs and design not happening, it's already overweight.

    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

I haven't ever sailed on one, so have no idea, but from the design reviews I was on the concept seemed reasonable for the plant load. The hard part of that is whether or not you get anywhere near it in actual operation, especially when you have major demands like the upper deck heating elements...

I looked at the HRV, I wasn't really impressed by the car itself at that pricepoint or the financing. Hopefully she's liking the Bronco, a friend has one, seems like a fun car to drive. Had good luck with Mazdas, so was looking at the CX5 and CX30, as well as the Passat, but then I swang by...

    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

Actually way less range compared to subs, because the power demand they are looking at it higher, without any of the reasons subs do it to be quieter, as the entire ship isn't submerged so you can minimize noise transmission a lot easier from engines on a surface ship. It's innovative I guess...

    Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

For a bit of context, we are friends with a number of same sex couples, who I think all drive Subarus, so thought it might be specific to that, but then googled it and it's a whole pop culture thing I was oblivious to (which is a long list I think). I think there are 6 Subaru owners in the...

    Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

Pay more for what exactly? Their bailout of Argentina? Foreign bases they maintain to project American imperialism? America isn't 'paying' for anybody else, they spend a lot of money to buy influence with soft power and project hard power for American interest, full stop. If they were a...

    Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

I went with a Subaru, which I'm really happy with, and is great in snow, gravel, and similar unpaved side roads. Nice alternative for people that don't need a pickup truck for the cargo, but don't want to kill a normal sedan going camping. My daughter thinks this is hilarious, and was making...

    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

Yes, and maybe no. I think they are looking at diesel or battery electric driven, but need to get more info, as just the fire side of things is pretty significant. The size of batteries they are talking about would be measured in tonnage, with a higher draw than subs, but still enough for hours...

2026 NDP Leadership Race & Pick

I miss folks like this in the NDP (like David Christopherson. Lot of baggage with the NDP 'brand' though, almost wonder if a dedicated labour party might have better luck, and roll in both blue collar as well as the masses of similarly unionized of non unionized white collar worker bees.

    Trump administration 2024-2028

Did you actually read the story, or just decide to chuck stones at a whole profession based on your isolated incidents? Lots of people get RTUd, and sometimes doing your job properly by giving an honest opinion makes you unpopular with operators. They aren't taking their opinion and going...

Medal mount for a civi suit jacket

I know a few people that have gone with them; they work amazing for the ribbons, and great for the single racks I've seen. Should scale up fine, but does add a lot of cost compared to a handful of small pins that typically you don't notice anyway on dark jackets, especially after a dry cleaning.

    Newfoundland Goes Blue

Nothing really like that, just that the federal CPC is a lot more regional than it used to be before the merger, and Stephen Harper had more success by violently repressing the anti-abortion and other socially regressive elements of the party. Ontario, NS, and NL PCs generally don't tolerate...

    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

Battery technology and sizes that don't exist, and add a ship killer vulnerability with no real idea on how to mitigate. Also the land based support requirements for it is massive, and the support side of that also doesn't exist. Also completely divorced from anything on the submarines, which...
