Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

The CAF is fine.... Recruiting 10K more boatswains when we need 200 more MarTechs is peachy. Between "own goals" and poor messaging, we fail to recruit the support trades me need. I distinctly remember an idiot MWO in my trade talking about how the next trade video with all the cool "high...

Support Occupations/systems fell under multiple layers of Admin below the L1 level. By making a new L1 responsible directly for the FG of personnel and units, it gives them a seat at the adult table where the money decisions are made. There is no guarantee that it will work out, but as you have...

Public service employment has grown by 31 per cent

That is a very positive bit of news. Sounds like people are thinking about how to cut the admin bloat, rather than the outputs.

Good luck getting a base Rav4 hybrid at that price. Also, the Rav4 LE(base) is not particularly well equipped when compared against the GMC. People aren't cross shopping those models, because of they want a base model SUV for cost they will go with a Chevy Trax, Hyundai Kona, or Kia Seltos.

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

He did say we need to diversify away from spending most of our money in America, and America has not helped the public image by turning off weapons supplies to Ukraine in the middle of it's fight for survival. This is a massive part of why the public neither trusts the RCAF, nor former RCAF...

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

Might mean a few less Super Bowl flights with the mistress, but I'm sure the RCAF will figure it out.

I'm kind of happy with he idea of making it easier for the dead-weight pension prisoners to bail early, and leave room for the keen. I'm not suggesting every person nearing retirement is dead weight, but the reality I have seen is that many in the last few years are just treading water to pad...

The Great Gun Control Debate- 2.0

From the start the whole plan was to make non-LPC supporters suffer, while bolstering failing LPC numbers in QC. It isn't about safety, and it isn't about a plan beyond that. Now that they are on the hook for compensation and they are in a minority government, they are looking for ways to...

Ford CEO Jim Farley laments he can’t fill 5,000 mechanic jobs

One of the big issues I've heard of is companies not wanting their apprentices to become journeymen, because they cost too much. So, people who go into the trades end up not getting the big pay promised, because they're stuck as apprentices/laborers. Like most problems in the labor market...

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

I suspect its viewed by some that way because it is an open door we can choose to open further, or close as we wish. Before the deal, the door was essentially closed. The EU as a block is about the same size economically as America. Greater access to another giant trade partner is not a bad...

    Canadian River Class Destroyer Megathread

Most people outside the purple trades know little about the purple trades, because they operate in a different CAF reality. My first couple of years in Ottawa were pretty eye opening, and I had worked in all three elements by that time. This is why I am a firm believer that all MWO/CPO 2s and...

Navy to potentially create training ships on great lakes

If we want to get cool pictures, MRRBs would fit the bill nicely, and we already have them. The RHIBs used for boarding are every bit as "speedboat" as the CB90, and are also designed to actually come alongside ships at sea. If we want to train NWOs in bridge management and ship handling...

Navy to potentially create training ships on great lakes

The RCN agrees, that's why boatswains do those things... I believe most/all NRDs already have RHIBS for exactly that sort of training. The CB90 would be an entirely different beast, and as it stands, lacks a role in the CAF. The CA doesn't have the time/resources for amphibious tasks, so the...

Direct expenses are compensated through BGRS claims, so why the 50% extra free money in a posting allowance? Was a married member worth 50% more than a single member? Because I was the easier option... Spin it how you want, making single member's "lesser" to accommodate married members is an issue.

More support is covering actual expenses, not giving a blanket 50% more money just because... Have you been posted across the country just because you were single? I have. I resist changes that make it easier to exploit single members to rhe system's benefit.

Nice swipe... I never said supporting people wasn't a good idea, I even proposed a solution that didn't take away form members. My point is, and has always been, that single members have traditionally been treated as second class members, with reduced posting benefits more frequent postings...

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

It's not about how many, (it varies by base and event) it's about the fact a single member gets zero from a mandatory childcare charge. The correct solution is an MFRC that prioritizes CAF members, and that has the capacity to actually support the base. The problem is that we cut as soon as...
