It is, how many people do you know who go to jail if they fail to show up to work? Or refuse to do something? Or even just tell your boss they are a idiot?

How many people have a boss who can order to travel/move across the country or the world in a instant without your consent?

It is a society apart and as such has different needs to your general society. If the public doesn’t like the ‘perks’ maybe they should join.

On a side note how many single members without children still go to the mess in large enough numbers to justify the expense? Asking.

Base dependant, the JRs in Shilo is busy. That said I wouldn't see my mess dues going to child care as being a second class citizen. I have a weird thing where I like knowing everyone is supported though.

And what about the public funds that go into messes? Get rid of dues altogether. Spend the public funds and use the infrastructure for child care with a user fee for CAF members participating.

Anyways, not saying it’s a good idea but some places could do that.

Pretty sure if we made mess dues optional messes would die mostly.

Probably - I suppose the counter point is that some of these more remote locations have functional messes that do provide valuable service to members. Probably could be replaced by something different but no pub is going to open on a base where they can't sell beer at lunch.

Oh I know the value of messes so it isn’t something I would want to just go away but supply and demand seems to be lacking.

I was posting that suggestion more in jest but I could see a business case for it in some places.

Probably why the bar closed in Borden about 11 years ago that was beside the base gym.

Nice swipe... I never said supporting people wasn't a good idea, I even proposed a solution that didn't take away form members.

My point is, and has always been, that single members have traditionally been treated as second class members, with reduced posting benefits more frequent postings. We just fixed that problem, so making choices that go back toward the old system is a step backwards.

Maybe the infantry didn't see as much of an impact for the old policies because of the regimental system, but support trades got screwed around enough for the the whole CAF...

No we get posted as well. I just could understand the idea that giving people more support when they have more expenses meant they were being treated as "second class." Conversly im generally happy they get support, just like I don't get upset that some people leave work earlier, or get a nicer accommodations in the field. Etc etc.

More support is covering actual expenses, not giving a blanket 50% more money just because...

Have you been posted across the country just because you were single? I have. I resist changes that make it easier to exploit single members to rhe system's benefit.

Well that's actually not true and we both know that. Costs like restocking a fridge are covered through the posting allowance and the small sum BGRS gives you.

We have had different careers with different influences/impacts. My only real issue is the fact you implied that I don't care about member's welfare.
