    Reservists Job Protection Superthread

I must have brain-block on....so if I go on a deployment, and my civ job stops paying me, but gives that money to someone else...what is that costing them? Are you talking in terms of training? Hiring? As for the rest...sounds like a Human Rights complaint to me. But I'm not so stupid to think...

    Reservists Job Protection Superthread

I think that the company is already getting compensation for hiring a reservist. Its called making money. And, IMO, if said employer will allow a reservist to go and train, I know I would pay that company back with a little more loyalty and hard work.

    Helmet straps

Hey all, Anyone know of aftermarket helmet straps for our helmets? I saw a couple of guys overseas that had different ones from the issue stuff... Also they had foam on the inside instead of the normal straps that fit to the top of your head... Thanks, mikeg81

What comes first Equipment or Doctrine? (from: I see a Role for MGS)

Not a bad idea...but the cold might get to them... Naw, I'm just trying to answer the question posed in the thread title.

What comes first Equipment or Doctrine? (from: I see a Role for MGS)

But arn't you always fighting the last war, when you are trying to make doctrine? Sure, during the '20's and '30's, development of equipment happened, but it was applied re: experience gained previously(ie: Tanks taking over from horses). Whereas during a war, like right now, if you've haven't...

    Whither the Artillery

Yup, the 777 is very stable. And the digital system adds to the accuracy. Fast laying and recording. As for the Light Gun, times have changed from 1969. That wasn't the best year for British industry anyway. Its now grown that the Light Gun is one of the most widely used guns, the Yanks are...

    PPP for M-109 reset.

From what I understand the recoil has trouble with the greater mass of the barrel. I'll confirm and get back to you.

    PPP for M-109 reset.

True of the C2. They've been around for 60+ years. We got our money out of that platform years ago. Esp the cradles that were used to make C3's. The recoil mech, trails, equilibrator, and barrel were changed to make the C3. That recoil mech gives the most trouble. I've seen alot of the guns...

    Whither the Artillery

All artillery is an area weapon, no matter what calibre it is. If that was the issue, than why is the 777 over there? As for range, 10k out of a 120 mortar is indeed good, but a Light Gun will go 17k. So you have 155 to reach out and touch, 105 intermediate, and mortars close in. Just the way...

    Whither the Artillery

I'm talking indirect. 105mm is cheap. The typical towed gun is simple, very little to break. Its more accurate than 120mm. Heck than any mortar, period. You won't be firing that "smart" ammo all the time, so the argument for it becomes moot. Besides, you won't see any of those 120 platform in...

    Whither the Artillery

But that is stating the obvious. 155 IS good for reaching out. But for closer in targets, you can saturate a target with 105 big time. In buildup trg. at Centre Lake, 4 105 C3's each doing a 15 round FFE is ALOT of HE downrange. Esp. when you are firing 4 rounds in 10 sec. There is new gen 105...

    Whither the Artillery

We used 81mm and the 777 overseas. We (C Troop) also had the honour(?) of being some of the only Canadians to use a 120mm mortar, that was lent to us by some Yanks. The 120mm mortar bomb weighs about the same as a 105 HE projectile. Its nowhere near as accurate, however, and not as fast to lay...

    PPP for M-109 reset.

Hey All, When I was out with E Battery, the Dutch came out with a pair of PZH2000's. They were the all singing, all dancing arty system, 100% atuomated. However, when 1 system goes down(which it did on one of the Dutch guns) the whole gun is out of action. This one gun sat for a week and a...
