    Nyala

There are a couple other problems that have come to light as the temperature increased between May and now.  When I left 2 weeks ago many RG's were down with overheating problems, as well as electical problems.  Coy Tp told me they are looking at inproved water pumps or something from Africa and...

Yeah the .50 is coming back

I think I saw a recruiting poster in a museum once with that slogan.  I am thinking of chairing a support group for people like us.  "Friends of the fifty"  It will be run once a week at the "Cpl 4th center for obscure weapons that no-one remembers anymore." If only I can find one without a QCB...

    Afghanistan's hidden war

Infidel-6,  I will be at the cottage.  We must have a summit over beer and shooting.  I think contract may be the only way I will ever go back there. :threat:

    Re: Israel Hits U.N. Post

In the same way that a school or church or culturally signifigant building is protected.  As soon as the enemy occupies or fires from said building, it is no longer protected and is now a legitimate target.  UN post or not.  Any recruit halfway through basic knows that.  Read the conventions...

    Re: Israel Hits U.N. Post

Regardless of how well marked the UN post was, and how well trained the operator was, its (the outpost) proximity to a legitimate target meant there was a danger of collateral damage. We all know how easily these things happen, why just last week a 500 pounder landed on my platoon who were all...

Will Canada respond to the Ivory Coast?

While 48th's wording may be "unrefined", his points are valid.  Colonial powers kept tribalism at bay and the world denounced them and cried for independance.  If anyone can name more than a couple post colonial successes I will be pleasantly surprised.  I can think only of Ghana.  I am NOT...

Role of Officer vs job of NCM [Merged]

I just spent an hour reading the historic and monumental thread Micheal suggested previously.  It should almost be required reading at recruiting centers.  It should also qualify as  post secondary education itself :)  At least for those who read it in its entirety.

    Ptes attending PLQ

CFL, same in my BN. Too young, too inexperienced but they were here when the courses ran and we were in theater. Now they will write my PER this year.  Next year it will be written by guys who stayed home from this tour and went on course instead.  While we were on BTE, they were on 1-5.  Nuff said.

    Ptes attending PLQ

I met a REAL junior leader the other day.  A 24 year old US Army Sgt with 2 tours in Afghan and 2 in Iraq.  He has the experience to be an NCO at that young age.  NO reserve Pte and no Reg pte can compete.  We have all seen what happens when you send young inexperienced Ptes on leadership...

Drop leg Holsters and utility rigs

Buy the medium Maxpedition rolly poly at Seals in calgary or supply sgt edmonton. Hang it on your non gun side from the plastic loops on bottom of tac vest with malice clips or zap straps.  Its about 30 bucks but worth every penny.  Tighten the bungee drawstring enough so mags go in easy but...

I think you may be thinking about the Wright radial engines in early M4 shermans

    Flash Lights

The litle black surefire second from the top in Kevs pic. 60 bucks, reliable as heck and the pressure switch cord accessory is only 29 bucks. Good poor mans weapon light although the bezel is not shock mounted so on your weapon, recoil may eventually break your bulb.  Not everyone who needs a...

    c6 gear needed badly

Kevin(s)  Matt Fisher is working on a soft drum for the c6 that we should be able to buy in time for tour.  Go! I have had the same ammo fouling or twisting in soft c9 bags, Matt has some thoughts on correcting it.  As for a sling Kev I will give you a hand with the mat tech when we get some...

    Whole Iltis Purchase

C.E.L surplus in Morinvile Ab ten mins west of the base has an iltis and trailer in good cond. but I think he wants 6000.  IMHO a bit too steep. Crown surplus in Calgary (not the crown assets disposal) usually has one as well but his prices are about 6000 as well.

Ilitis Story, I did like my ride

I have spent the last 12 years of my life nursing the poor abused crapped out vehs these guys wrecked from ilts, 5/4 ,deuce, to cougar and am already sick of hearing people bragging about breakin my stuff. YES my stuff Those of us who use it full time and depend on it. Too many guys have the...

    Post your scrim

Scrim is a throwback to old brit tradition in our basic trg.  A big head of scrim stands out way more than dirty cadpat helmet.  Maybe they didnt see me roll up in my Lav. Seriously though, scrim is fading in popularity cause you cant stick IR patches to it and it interferes with my NVG mount. ...

Canadian PRT Troops in Kandahar pictures

We were told the same thing about the old "thumbs up " being a bad thing last year on Athena. My guess is that may be old info that was pertinent before the masive influx of western culture. Kids all seemed pretty happy to se us thumbs up and all. Maybe they were just pulling a fast one over on...

Upgrades to Combat Clothing! (pockets on the sleeves & zippers)

Yes life is pretty good. ...Eight hours into a foot patrol in 35 celsius you've sweated through your vest and plates so much your mags are soaked and now the useless pockets on your chest are eating (not chafing) your skin. Now life sucks and I can bitch about my pockets. If you dont know why we...

What would keep you in the army?

I am totally on board with Allan.  We were being led down the garden path and fed a load of crap all through the nineties.  I have high hopes for the Army Gen. H envisions, but I have been let down before. I feel the "new unit" has the potential for greatness as well.  Even if some of the bright...
