I was considering buying a drop leg utility rig for use, but don't know if thats a great idea. I can think of some potential problems, but I can think of some good points of the system.

Any thoughts?

For what?

I've used them and gotten away for them for anything but my pistol.

Get a rolly-polly instead - you don't want 5 empty mags banging around on your leg when you're trying to move around....

I'd mount the dumper to a belt or vest -- I run mine off my RAV.

Leg stuff gets awful stale quick when your moving with them on.

I had a run of them done by our MATTECH for some kill house stuff - we found 1) we did not shoot enough ina  live kill house to validate or invalidate the dumper 2) leg pouches get all beat to fuck as you mover thru a house/dwelling.

A number of folk who run them leg mounted are not running vests etc - and this dpnt have that option.

The last item I ran as an leg rig (minus pistol) was the TCCC med bag and I deep sixed that idea as well.

drop leg rigs look gay.
they chafe when you walk alot.
they are noisy.

Thats why you have pockets on your pant legs.

I agree with what is written right abouv. Follow K's advice and look for other options.

If you really don't have time to put it back where it came from, I use an old trick I was shown a long time ago. Just drop it inside your t-shirt from the neck. If your t-shirt is stuffed in your pants, you won't loose anything. If your too busy to put it back in it's pouch, your too busy to notice it in your t-shirt...

1) Never put an empy mag back in a mag pouch EVER (at least operationally - and it is a BAD habit in training)

2) partially full mags get retained - either in a dumper or a magpouch - but ideally when you have time for a pause move full mags to your go to pouch(es) (everyone has a favourite sweet spot to reload from...)  Empty mags - ditch them if its an emergency reload - if your still tickign you can always get them later.

3) The Down the Shirt method works fine IF your not wearing armour of full vests.  Unless you SOF your going to be mandated to wear body armour - so it is not a practical solution these days.

Buy the medium Maxpedition rolly poly at Seals in calgary or supply sgt edmonton. Hang it on your non gun side from the plastic loops on bottom of tac vest with malice clips or zap straps.  Its about 30 bucks but worth every penny.  Tighten the bungee drawstring enough so mags go in easy but wont fall out. Seriously, 50% of my company wears them and the other half are waiting for em.

Like me  ;)

55 bucks for a shock-corded bag? Methinks the Maxpedition Rolly Polly for less than half the price is a better deal.

Just my $.02

Actually "less than half the price" would be $27.49  and under.  ;D

The Maxpedition Rolly Polly are pretty good from what I hear. You can't go wrong with it.

What the TAG dump pouch allows you to do is totaly close the pouch, and yet still be able to put mags into it.

I don't know about you, but as far as I'm concerned $23.99 IS less than $27.49  :dontpanic:

Has anyone else used the Bianchi holsters?
I've bought the UM84/92 and the drop-leg attachment and it works like a charm (my only gripe is that the drop-leg bit is very stiff).
In all it's worth about a hundred well deserved bucks.

Yup, I use the local range in the hills.

I also airsoft with friends from time to time 8)

The Bianchi UM84 is the CF issue holster -

It is an okay holster for a US issue M9 (as far as holding the pistol goes)  -- it is a worthless holster for the CF issue Browning.

It is not a good holster.

The Gold Standard in "Tactical" holsters is the Safariland 6004 SLS -- or its modular relatives.
I have one for a BHP, one for a Sig, and one for a Glock.

I have gone thru a number of holsters and settled on the 6004

Anyone familliar with Blackops outfitters in Afghan?

From what I've seen at the local PX's, it's not compareable to good quality gear like Camelbak backpacks, but YMMV.

I've foregone the issued holster for a Tactical Tailor one in CADPAT myself, and I'm very pleased with it!

BTW, many contingents here have drop-leg rigs for their rifle mags, as we must be armed in camp and not everyone has a pistol. Wouldn't want to walk very far wearing one though...
