Sergeant Major Marching Up & Down the Parade Square - Return to Spit & Polish

No-one may be promoting it, but it's happened a frighteningly high number of times in my short career. Drill practice is a thing that everyone has to drop everything to do, while going to the range is a "if nothing else comes up" thing. I'll admit I'm a little disgruntled, but there's been a...

Sergeant Major Marching Up & Down the Parade Square - Return to Spit & Polish

One example I'll never forget is just prior to high readiness training... they had us practice for 3 weeks for a winter parade that consisted of marching on, present arms, marching off. All day, 5 days a week for 3 weeks. I've spent more days practicing drill in Bn than I have firing my...

What is the full infantry kit on regular combat operations?

    Ammo and Water. Thread over.

What is the full infantry kit on regular combat operations?

I guarantee by the time you see a "combat operation" the list will be 100% different. The list will vary greately from soldier to soldier, from location, from type of terrain, to weapon type, to organization type, to mission, to length of op. It's a useless excercise to ask what "an infanteer...

    Vibram FiveFingers

It says in the article that they were banned because they detract from a professional military image. As far as I'm concerned that attitude is far further from a professional military image than any running shoe you could wear. Just reading that makes me angry. That kind of attitude belongs...

Tactical Armoured Patrol Vehicle - RG-31, LAV Coyote, and (partial) G-Wagon Replacement

Most of the Americans who were using the MATV overseas seemed to like it. It's not a troop carrier, and it's not a fighting vehicle. The only real use I saw for it was as a super-armoured humvee. Definitely had better off road capability than the RG-31s and Cougars.

The brown Temperate Combat Boot (AKA: Mk IV Cbt Boot) - No longer CADPAT

I've actually heard similar numbers, including something like 400-700$ for custom fitted boots for weird sizes; usually just from mumblings of Supply Techs.

Different Unit's policies on non-issued chest rigs

Infanteer... I wish the whole of the Army and the Infatry and particular used that mind set.

    Customizing Your C7?

You don't even keep your C7 in the infantry. Whenever they get handed in to the vault anything we put on them gets taken off.

Regimental nicknames of the Canadian Forces

Had to add one; was surprised it wasn't there before. "The Royal Cleaning Regiment" I hear it all the time, from Royals and others alike.

    Training for ruckmarching

No argument on the shoes vs boots thing, that's just my personal preference. I just don't like wearing boots with shorts. Why be a soldier if you don't look cool, right? If you're actually training for a specific march (Nijmegan/Iron Man) then you really should wear the boots that you plan on...

    Training for ruckmarching

The way I see it, there's absolutely no reason to ruckmarch in uniform, and the only reason to march in boots is to ensure that they're broken in and fit well. I prefer doing it in a shorts/t-shirt with running shoes, assuming I'm doing it on pavement or relatively even ground. Same applies for...

I have the same kind of issue coming up; my CoC won't action my memo or my Leave Pass until a couple of weeks before the requested leave date.

    CPGear MoFOCR or TT MAV/MFR?

While I was overseas, there were a good number of MAVs and MoFoCRs. I personally used the 2-piece MAV with X-Harness. The only complaint I had with the MAV was that there wasn't really anywhere to put maps/aide memoires. Easily fixed with a pant pocket. I'd suggest the 2 piece bib; that little...

2nd Canadian Armored Brigade on Greatest Tank Battles (WWII)

I watched it a while ago; interesting for sure. My only serious peeve (besides them re-capping the episode every 10 minutes) is that when they say they were 1000m apart, the animation shows them about 100. Just made me (and the other guys) laugh when we saw it.

    Height Concerns/Joining Forces

When I was going through basic, there was a member who was well over 7 ft. So don't worry about that. I've also met a Dragoon who was nearly 7 ft tall as well. There's also a Royal I know who's close to (or even above) the 7ft level. I don't know if it precludes you from certain trades, but it...
