It was on the front page of the Toronto Star today and Patrick was interviewed on the radio this morning as well.
I think if you do first aid, and take control of the situation, save others...your fine! It's when you get into performing medical acts that you may find yourself in trouble.

We were very pleased to have the CF attend this years Competition!!
We had 2 Reserve teams, 1 Reg Force team and a recruiting booth. All did very well.
This guy was doing what he was trained to do. "Excellence through Challenge" is the Competitions motto. This guy was doing his duty.

I have to agree with St. Michaels Medical Team. After being a Paramedic for 10 years. ACP for 8, Educator, ER medic etc....general keener.... ;D I must say that civillian EMS is just that. Algorithm based care. Very very true in many ways.
The attractive thing about being a Med-Tech to me...
Thanks for everyones support!
So far it looks like we have 2 teams from a Toronto reserve unit and a military team from Quebec as well.
Registrations on the civillian side include Alberta, NWT, BC, ON, and NB. So far.
It would be great to see some of you there even as spectators................
I recently received permission to post this. Thanks again.
The 2008 National Paramedic Competition is being held at the University of Ontario/Durham College campus in Oshawa, Ontario on April 5Th 2008.
We have worked very hard over the years to develop this event. It's nonprofit and at the end...
Fair enough. I do know that Fentanyl lollis were presented to us during a discussion/presentation by 2 Sgt.s with 2 field Amb. So someone in the CF is using them.
Fentanyl lolli's are definately self administered. Tape it to the pt.s thumb. They suck on it. Before they get too sedated it falls out of there mouth.

As far as pre-hospital care goes I really think the King LT A/W is the way to go as opposed to an LMA and the NPA for sure! It has been a standard of care for a long time on civvy street.
Something I'm most impressed with are the Fentanyl "lollipops" We don't use them currently but...
Im doing both the Med-Tech and Sar-Tech medicals. They are definately different. Pulmonary function tests, Chest X-ray's, 2 eye exams...and lots of other stuff.
The first test at the CFRC did include a urine test though. Maybe ask them about it the next time your in.
I really appreciate all this advice...Thanks!!
I do want to join the CF for many reasons one of them being further education and training that I just wont get on Civvy street. So I guess the more courses the better.
Thanks.
That's not what I'm hearing from the Recruiter at all. I have been told everything from acting Cpl. with a $40.000 signing bonus to Private 3, but not exactly what you said. I was initially contacted during a recruiting display at a Paramedic conference and told the above. Apparently...
After hearing all the media spin and opinions on this over the last few day's I'm glad Zipperhead_cop said exactly what I was thinking.
The video is only a short glimpse of what really happened. It appears to me that the TASER was used as per usual Police protocol. I do not think that the...
Fair enough on HSA. I was lucky enough to sit in on a presentation by 2 members of 2 Field Amb at a conference in September and I think Dextran sounds like the way to go.
NPA's? Use them, like them, although some traumas make there use difficult. Biggest problem is you still need 2 rescuers to...
Hello all,
I have been around this site for about a year. I have learned a tremendous amount from reading posts and doing searches. I am currently in the application process for Med-Tech and direct entry SAR-TECH.
I am very curious to know of any experiences from civilian qualified...
