    Dundurn - Restricted Airspace

I have never heard of a "no fly zone". The Designated Airspace Handbook (available on line through Transport Canada) is the only reference for aispace in Canada. If a Commander wants to ensure that no one fly's over a certain area, that area is designated in the DAH and then everyone knows...

So what is your opinion on saluting foreign officers?

You don't salute the Officer, you salute the Commission.

A Collection Of Army.ca Humour - including SKIPPY'S DAMN LIST AGAIN!!

My personal Favourite: "American 643 Heavy, you have to key the mike, I can't see you nod your head". Another: Air Canada 422 is cleared for the ILS Rwy 32. Number three on approach following Airbus your 12 o'clock for 2...lets make that 3 miles. (The absloute minimum separation allowed is 3...

Berets and How to Form Them

There is a lot of debate over leaving the liner in when shaping the beret- I've done both, and tend to leave the liner in now. Best way I've found to shape a beret is start when you have an entire evening to devote to the shaping. Start by running hot water straight from the tap into the beret...

    Defending Canadian Arctic Sovereignty

Keep in mind that the rangers are not there to fight- they keep an eye on the activity in their area, and report if something untowards is noticed. As well, they'll provide area expertise and guiding services to regular troops. Good bunch, the Rangers!

CF "Experience Crisis"/recruiting and retention problems ...

the 25 year thing is new- the option of retiring penalty free at 20 is being dropped in favour of a mandatory IPS to 25 years. Read anything you sign carefully! :)

A-10 Warthogs for the CF ??

someone was asking about the Canadian air to mud role being gone- not so. The low level delivery has been replaced by high level delivery. In the "old" days, pilots stayed alive by going low level, under radar coverage, and being faster than the missiles fired at them. Worked well, but we lost a...

    Air Force's CADPAT name-tag & rank

Seems to me to be a moot point anyways- when I was Army (Tanks) I pretty much always had coveralls on, no rank or name tag. When I was Tac Hel, (Airforce) I never had any rank or nametags on my combat  flying suit either. Couldn't care less what we wore in Garrison, that's all Sgt-Maj stuff...

    Marriage and recruiting

Been in the Forces for 27 years, and married for 23. Was gone 11 months the first year we were married! Love my work, love my family. You need to have a tough woman for a wife, and you both need to commit to the relationship. It's been great for us. Cheers-Garry

    career medical review board

All Military pers must meet a certain physical fitness standard. It's composed of a series of tests designed to really see if you can work through your disability. Carry a stretcher, dig a trench, fire a weapon, run at a pace other than your own....and it really isn't that tough. If your knee...

    Hunters & Fishermen (fisher-people)

That is one HECK of a bear- nice size for a black! and people wonder why I throw a 12 gauge over my shoulder when I walk the dogs.........LOL. #1 way of meeting a bear is having a dog run home to papa with a new "friend" chasing it! very nice trophy, and tell Tink next time he's up to stop by...

Should Canada adopt the LAV III (AKA: Stryker) as its primary armoured vehicle family?

Good discussion. Bottom line, we need direction, ie: a white paper on defence. Once we know what our war time tasks are, we (read none of us :) ) can then structure our Force to meet those objectives. One thing to consider is that we, as citizens, must ensure that if we send our kids "in...

    Need some advice

If you‘re sincere in joining the forces, give RMC a try- heck, you‘ll save big $$ !! Only drawback I see is many who go to RMC end up brainwashed- but not all. It‘s a great experience. Forget about the kit- you‘ll get it re-issued when you join the regs anyway. Either way, get a degree- it‘ll...

    A request, suggestion, demand, whatever....

Alan, you almost got me! However, I went back and read your posts in this thread, and you‘re spoiling for a fight. You‘ve been condescending, agressive, and arrogant. You‘ve slapped the "old boys" backs, and hammered the kids. You picked on a segment of the board for no reason other than to...

Horse Hockey. I could invent any number of names, you‘d never know the difference. There are several folk here who know me, most of whom I‘ve worked with before, and that‘s fine- matter of fact, it was old home week for awhile! As for credibility, well, you earn it. Once you‘ve been here...
