    Todays Army compared to yesteryear...

I think the biggest change I‘ve seen in the last 27 years of service has been in the role of the Forces. When I joined, the Cold War was in full swing. Many of my leaders had Korean War experience. We (4 CMBG) had a clear mission. Life was very straight forward for me, I knew exactly what I had...

The Merged Thread on Gay/ Homosexual Topics and the CF.

The Military, being a Federal organisation, lives by the Federal Government rules. These kids were married in a Province, (by the Province), that recognises gay marriage. As of right now, the Federal Government does not recognise gay marriage. It‘ll be very interesting to see if they are in...

    Pushup Problem Errrrrr

If you‘re training for strictly Military exercises like pushups, situps, and ch9n ups, then why aren‘t you doing push ups, sit ups, and chin ups? I positively guarentee you that if you did push ups and sit ups first thing every morning and last thing every night, you‘ll be vbery good at them...

    Defending Canadian Arctic Sovereignty

S_Baker, Re: standing by. Yes, I believe you would. This reminds me a lot of the Falkland campaign, and the US was a very loyal ally of Britain. Tough to say, but this would be one to stay away from... for all of us!

    MY CHERNOBYL RIDES

I‘d much rather have a nuke go off- half life is way shorter....this is typical "dirty bomb" stuff, though on a larger scale. Scary.

Quality Differences amongst Units, re: Equipment

re intel- yes. and the new radios aren‘t that tough to figure out- just keep at them.

Exvitae- truck driver now? Good- you‘ll have skills that will come in handy. Off road driving is a tough skill to master, bet you find it a lot of fun. Hint- it‘s not often about speed and power... John Long et al- "incompetent" may be a little harsh in today‘s PC world, but in reality the term...

    Coopers TEST

My memory may not be correct, but iirc the "basic" Cooper test was, with exception of chin ups and bench press, the "basic" PT test when I joined...the difference being was the Chin ups were 9, and no bench press.

    Breathing Tips For Step test

I really try hard not to be negative here, but I simply must echo Infanteer‘s original response: for anyone even considering joining the combat arms, the express test is a joke. 19 push ups? congrats. I have a Bud (with a big mouth) who averaged 1500 push ups a day on his CLC. The rest of us...

Pay: Statements, Backpay, Benefits, Deductions (Taxes, T4), Deployed ect... [MERGED]

When I first heard of the tax breaks, I thought it was wonderful incentive. Repeated overseas tasking suck, but at least we would receive a little more compensation for the time away from home. I wasn‘t aware of the delineation of danger areas. There are many posters above who quite rightly say...

blisters...tips to prevent? tips to treat them ?

Start off with your boots- this works for any leather boots, not sure about the synthetics though. Take them home, fill them full of water, and leave them (full) in the bathtub over night. Next morning, empty them out. Heave the issued innersole, and replace with a good quality running shoe...

France and China in Joint Naval Exercise

same reaction here...but then again, I‘ve never been really impressed with that nation. As for their intentions? Who knows...and frankly, who cares.

I always wear Cowboy boots. Then again, I take Tradition seriously. There are "some" perks to having a "Cavalry " mess kit. :)

    Armour Corps Trg

I cannot believe that I‘m getting involved in this..... Please do not confuse a low body fat content with physical fitness. Most soldiers train to fight, vice train to run a marathon. An "average" guy in an "average" job can have whatever body style he wants: a soldier will get the body he...

    Spain is pulling out

A few things: Religion is a hard thing to argue. Based on faith vice anything really tangible, either you "get it" or you don‘t. Just for the fun of it, though, take a look at all of the world‘s major religions. They have several things in common, but the one I‘d like to focus on is how the...

    Armour Corps Trg

What worries me even more is the amount of training we‘re able to give our newer soldiers...and our older ones. When I joined up, I averaged 9 months a year in the field. First year I was married I was gone 11 months. All training, by the way. We drove the tanks from Base to the field...Heck...

    Spain is pulling out

Hi! While you‘re researching, take a look into the merger of Petro Fina and Elf, two of the biggest oil companies in France. I believe that they had signed contracts with Iraq for exclusive rights to process Iraqi oil for the next 7 years, worth in the area of 100 Billion dollars. About the...
