    Combat Engineers

Yes, I what I was implying was if you finish it all at once when you come back next summer you will be in shacks for your 2IC course. ;) 31 FES (Fort Garry Horse) in Winnipeg.

    Combat Engineers

With the reserve course you don't need to be that great with math, I'm not sure about the Reg course. We did spend a few days reviewing math. I suck at math but they start right from the basics so you learn, they don't expect you to be an expert. On your 5's expect a lot of math. As was said...

    Combat Engineers

I did the reserve QL3 this summer which is 12 weeks long (added an extra mod making it 14 weeks now). It is defiently more difficult then BMQ/SQ. Expect to do a lot of pushups and pull ups and lots of rucking. Early mornings and late nights. You should enjoy it but hate it at the same time...

    Cutting your own hair

How can you manage to screw up your hair cut when it is all the same size with the smallest size? Been doing it for 2 years without a problem. I actually haven't seen the hair regulations since I've always kept it short I haven't had to look. If you have a link that would be great though...

    Cutting your own hair

Odd question yes, but I had a hair related question. I shave my head right down with clippers. I was told it was a charge to cut your own hair while on course. I can't remember what it was called but I thought I'd ask if you guys have heard of it. I just like to save my money rather then pay...

Res SQ coming up shortly, few questions!

I just finished my SQ so I'm sure I can be of help. It is a though choice for bringing 1 or 2 sleeping bags. It didn't get all that warm on my SQ but when it was around 0C, one sleeping bag was good enough so I'm sure 1 will be fine for you. I would bring your cadpat winter jacket, the...

    July 2009 BMQ

I remember when I was so happy to go do basic and quickly couldn't wait for it to be over. ;)

    I am really confused

Lots of people think you join the army and you go to basic and you're trained. You do basic which like it was said above, you learn to become a CF member, not a civvy. You then go to soldier qualification (BMQL) which you learn the basics of being a combat soldier (shoot some cool guns, nav...

    56 FES

We are suppose to stand up in 2012 along with a FES in Saskatoon as 38 CER. I'm not sure if the Saskatoon FES has even started recruiting yet so we shall see how that goes.

July & August BMQ and SQ Chilliwack

Man, what a awesome place to do BMQ and SQ. Chilliwack is so beautiful; I did mine in Shilo in the winter. :)

    Soldier Qualification Location

It's called BMQ (Land) now. Everyone calls it SQ still though. I am currently doing PRes course now. They took of the Carl G (disappointing, hopefully I'll get to use one eventually). Now have M72's instead.

Boot cleaning / polishing / care of

First off, sorry if this topic has been discussed. I did a search and didn't come up with a thread directly about this topic. I have been using kiwi polish the first day I started wearing combat boots. We can use polish or the paste, it has to do with personal preference in the Regiment. Well...

"Pashtun Canadians To Rally Against Taliban This Sunday" (in Toronto)

Its nice to hear things like this. I've talked to some Afghans who moved from Kandahar to Winnipeg and its interesting to hear their perspectives on the mission. You never actually know what its like till you talk to people who have lived there during Taliban times.

    Gas Chamber

Haha, what fun. People try to build fear into you and tease you about getting gased but its not all that bad. The gas hut I used had two rooms, one room you entered from outside and then another room where the gas was being burnt. Well, I didn't realize the first room would have gas to. I took...

    Struggling [ Chin-ups]

I sucked at chin ups, could do 2 or 3. Tried doing as many as I could each time I hit the chin up bar. Now I can do 15-20 at once. When I wanted to join the CF I could do the 2.4 KM run just under 12 minutes, ran 5 kilometers a few times a week and am now doing the 2.4 KM in under 8 minutes. I...

Reserve Weekend BMQ ( merged )

Hopefully none of your course staff come on the forums and read this. They may come on these forums too. Trust me, if they find out people have been saying the course is easy they will make you sorry you didn't. My course did and we did PT all day. I like PT, but not that much of it, not when...

    Toughening one's feet.

I wear the common two layer sock technique and the same insoles my boots came with. I never have any blister problems with course ruck marches, bfts etc. But I never have had any blister problems in my life. I guess everyone had their downsides. I get poison ivy horribly in the field and live...
