Looking at the Combat Training Centre's page, the next BMQ-L that he will be available for will start in Jan 2020.  This course is a pre-requisite for his DP1 Crewman.  If he gets on one of the many Jan courses, the next DP1 Crewman will start in March.  This does not mean he will be on those...

Can't speak for other trades, but Sigs have a position in the UK, but it is for a MCpl.  The few positions, as stated already, are highly competitive in all trades.

I have not seen this happen unless you commit a serious offence while serving.  Prior to enrollment, they will complete an Enhanced Reliability Check (ERC) and depending on your trade you will need a much higher clearance.  ERC basically covers you to rumor.  I think you need at least a level 2...
