PTSD extends beyond military vets, mental health conference told

How about you not resort to personal and professional insults to attempt to win the argument. Here are facts: 1. PTSD is not limited to people who have military service. 2. Resources for people outside the military with PTSD are limited as there is not many people who have the expertise to...

PTSD extends beyond military vets, mental health conference told

Your statement about people being released from the military due to a diagnosis of PTSD because the Canadian Forces was "to lazy to deal with [PTSD] properly" requires substantiation. Your rant does not negate the initial point: there are civilians who have never served in the military who...

PTSD extends beyond military vets, mental health conference told

Regardless if they were or not, the media's reporting has made it the illness d'jouer for any military member who is suffering from the myriad of mental illnesses. And because of that, it is easier for them blame the military for causing PTSD than explain they have depression or anxiety disorder.

PTSD extends beyond military vets, mental health conference told

I know your rant. It is ironic that people who are complaining about a lack of mental health services after release, actually would have had better access to professionals if they did not voluntarily release. P.S.- just because you developed a mental illness while in the service of the...

PTSD extends beyond military vets, mental health conference told

Good article about the portion of population that has a much higher percentage of PTSD, but gets ignored: http://www.ottawacitizen.com/health/SOMNIA/9665813/story.html During my training, I had several patients which had been diagnosed with PTSD, not a single one was or had been a member of...

    Canadian Forces dentists' productivity questioned

Bull sh!t article written with distorted facts and bull sh!t being spewed by talking heads. "I would say anybody should be able to produce $200,000 worth of dentistry," said Cuff. The majority of work by those dentists and dental techs are DAGs and annual inspections, preparing soldiers for...

How can this diagnosis hurt my career?

I don't know your specifics so let me speak in generalities; if your are functioning within your occupation without issue, then there should not be any impact on your career at this time. There are many people in the CF with a "diagnosis". It is how they function that counts. Ask your specific...

    Suicides

I agree. And that media reporting it as a crisis does not help. But media likes labels. Also, referring to the Cpl. MacEcheren suicide, there must be a defined separation between true PTSD and all the other types of mental illness in the media so that this issue can be defined better. Not all...

Alert, Warning order to follow Toronto deputy mayor thinking of asking for troop

What I find disturbing is the prevalence of the thought that Canada sends it military overseas to help clean up after disasters, why can they not do that here at home. That and the food card boondoggle.... Edit to add- there has been discussion about "calling in the army" since the 27th.
