Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

So an audit done in the last months of JT's government showed what we all knew. A lot of things have changed since then. They are not where they need to be but wow, I sometimes feel like someone popped the blister. Relief. Though there is healing to do and we can't run on that foot yet.

AOR Replacement & the Joint Support Ship (Merged Threads)

Yah its a bit in flux, but we did start from the old tanker numbers. I can say CSE Dept is pretty small, but larger than some were originally thinking. There are a lot of cranes on the ship and CSE are the crane operator maintainers. IIRC it was between 250-280 pers. MSE and Deck Dept are...

AOR Replacement & the Joint Support Ship (Merged Threads)

JSS will certainly have more folks in messes/cabins than on Asterix. 8 max IIRC with a larger heads near their cabin. Most CPO's - PO's will be 4 to a mess, Some CPO's 2 to a mess. All have their own heads, or share a heads with the cabin beside them (so 8 pers to a heads max). The MSE...

    Canadian River Class Destroyer Megathread

What do you mean by prefitting? Can you educate us on that? What in the image indicates prefitting? And what are the implications of "more than expected"? This is why I love this site, opportunities to learn!

Navy Badges on Army / Air Force DEUs

IF (big if) the RCN is "blocking" (which they can't) a Domestic Ops medal is because all naval operations are Dom Ops basically. As are most Airforce Operations. Hence why the RCN introduced the Sea Service Insignia to recognize all the operations sailors do (by way of counting sea days) that...

Navy Badges on Army / Air Force DEUs

I can't speak for all of the badges listed, but no, generally they are not approved to be worn on any other dress but the Naval ones. Because the Navy decided it doesn't want to follow the proper dress regulations procedure for its dress.

    pre-enrolment security screening or citizenship

Talk to the Centre. They normally don't get the police certificate themselves, thats your responsibility. You'll have to request it and submit it. Same thing for the foriegn Credit check. I have never seen CFRC request a police check on someones behalf, so that sounds a bit odd to me. As...

    pre-enrolment security screening or citizenship

In the person above's case they were not a Canadian Citizen. If you are a Canadian Citizen and lived in a red flagged country for 6+ months in the last 5 years you will require a Pre-security Screening, and will also require a police check from that country, and a credit check from the same...

    Continental Defence Corvette

Canada is probably the only country in NATO that actually follows the NATO designations exactly for ship classification. Evidence the DDGH River Class. As you can see here FFL is both a Light Frigate and a Corvette at the same time, its classification is left to armament or capability...

AOR Replacement & the Joint Support Ship (Merged Threads)

Asterix did what it was supposed to do at a time when we had no other options. It did great service. Yes it was expensive and yes there were some bad design decisions that lead to not idea seakeeping (including an accident with a Cyclone). Good and bad. Kept us in the Pacific and relevant...

I think financially its probably not worth it for them. They won't refit the Asterix.

Fully agree. There is lots of work for Seaspan getting the CCG back to new ships. We'll have our hands full with fleet expansion from other directions for the next 10 years. Having them hit the water and join the fleet just as PRO/ PRE get ready for mid life would be perfect timing.

PRO delivery to navy summer 27', which will be after builders trials. Then ship will be transferred to Victoria Shipyards to install some of the combat systems as Vancouver shipyards doesn't have the expertise. It won't be till probably late 28' the PRO is fully approved for every task...

    Continental Defence Corvette

Not sure what they are hot launching. Angled launch advantages include wings are able to provide lift immediately. Which can increase range. As well its easier to orient on a target if you are already heading in the correct direction. Current Sea Sparrow launchers on US Carriers use angled...

    Continental Defence Corvette

For "Safe at Sea" regulations you need a certain number of operational boats and operational cranes to launch them per number of people onboard. I don't know what the number is but I do know this: MCDV's need one crane to launch the rescue zodiac. HFX need two cranes, one for the zodiac and...

I don't think the ship will be large enough to take a missile hit and keep going, while still fighting. @Oldgateboatdriver has it correct, all you efforts will be DC and none of them will be operations room stuff. So consider the ops room disposable after battle damage has been inflicted...
