Notice the difference in tone between CENTCOM and "proportional response" and Pete Hegseth's bravado of "maximum violence" and "kicking them when they are down."

Informing the Army’s Future Structure - CAMO Discussion

Izyum fell to the Russians on 1 April 22, after they had managed to cross the Donets river on either side of the city. Aside from some attacks towards Slovyiansk that were parried away by the Ukrainians that month, not much happened there until September. May-Aug 22 is actually a good case...

Informing the Army’s Future Structure - CAMO Discussion

It depends. There are different conceptual "aim points" at different echelons. Some focus on a "Middle Battle" area, while other echelons go deep.

Got a source on that fight? I don't recall the Ukrainians achieving anything like that in the summer of 2022 - their back were against the wall then as Russia transitioned forces from the Kyiv axis to Donbas. Their fall counteroffensive featured a breakout, but I wouldn't call it "into the...

Informing the Army’s Future Structure - CAMO Discussion

How are they going to get through the close area, considering the mass persistent surveillance and strike that is available today? Looking at doctrine helps. US defines doctrine defines deep operations as "tactical actions against enemy forces, typically out of direct contact with friendly...

Informing the Army’s Future Structure - CAMO Discussion

The Deep and Close areas are not some informal concept to think about. It's doctrine. Someone please explain to me how a "Medium Cavalry" organization fights and sustains itself on 50 ton armoured vehicles in the Division's deep area, which is conceivably 30-50 km forward of the FEBA?

Medium Cavalry: Critical Capability or Poor Man’s MBT?

We should probably figure out how 1st Canadian Division is going to fight before making up units and "ways of fighting" for it.
