    Election 2011

One point on the Corporate tax rates that I've discovered recently is that while the Federal corporate rate is 16.5% now, Provincial tax is another 2-16%.  Thus, when you look at the world state of affairs, we seem to be quite average. The Opposition leaders also seem to think that raising...

CF Hair Regulations - Female styles

Current (The most current published) Dress Regulations are available here for this week.  DND has a tendency to change URLs on a very frequent basis though. http://www.army.forces.gc.ca/land-terre/downloads-telechargements/reserve/dress-tenue/CF_dress_instructions_mod2008_0514.pdf Look around...

    Mess Kits

Thanks for the advice, Pusser, I wish I had been more knowledgeable when I was in Portsmouth last year, but I guess hat there's always next time!  Gieves is still at 1250 pounds ex. VAT, so still ~$2000. I just found the reference, so here it is straight from the dress regs, Chapter 6, Section...

Survey When Logging Onto Logistik Unicorp

There is a new survey presented to CF members when accessing Clothing Online.  The survey concerns 2 new items:  The Rubber High Black Overshoes: 1) Do you use them? 2) What would you like seen done with them - Discontinued - Upgraded - Kept the same 3) Which improvement would you like to see...

    HMCS Athabaskan

Yes, E.R. Campbell,  I'm sure that you are right.  The issue was addressed to an extent with the National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy, but the process is still painfully slow, and as you say, the money just isn't there.  I wonder if some kind of show promoting the Navy and it's actions...

New replacements for HMCS Iroquois, HMCS Algonquin and HMCS Athabaskan?

I'm going to resurrect this thread with some questions, since the news of ATH being refitted made me ponder our replacement options. SCSC, while a nice idea, will take a long time to get in the water, so instead, would it be wise to buy something like the new Type-45 Destroyer to replace the...

    HMCS Athabaskan

Well, on the plus side, I may actually be lucky enough to serve on a 280 when I finish university and Phase Training in 2013!  If she ever comes out of refit, that is.  Varied training platforms should be a plus! I don't know when the government will realize that refitting 40-year-old ships...

    No Kit for BMQ start

NECROPOST! EDITED TO ADD: People on my BMQ had to wear running shoes for 2 weeks until they were issued SWATs purchased locally.  As George said, training can be done to an extent without kit, but people with no training get bored.

    On the ROTP fence...

Hi, and welcome to Army.ca I am in my first year of the ROTP program, so I can give you answers to a few of your questions.  Many of these questions are answered elsewhere, but it can be difficult to find when you're new to the site. The ROTP application deadline is usually December/January...

    Canadian Source for MREs/IMPs?

The 'Omelette with Mushroom Sauce' was my absolute preference of the breakfast meals I had.  It tasted pretty bland both cold and warm, and came with 'Breakfast Cereal #3"!

CF position on poor academic history.

Kincanucks, Like it or not, this website is a fairly prominent result on Google, depending on your search criteria, and it is also the most obvious URL.  As a result, we get a lot of people who have no idea what is involved coming here.  As has been asked here before, why do many condemn those...

kicked out of university for being a reservist?

When I did my BMQ in 2008, it conflicted with 2 final exams at University of Windsor.  The registrar's office took care of everything, got me to write my exams 2 months after the course finished, in Ottawa at Carleton University.  They even let me reschedule the rescheduled exams because I...

Enrolling in ROTP, what pay grade will I get?

Technically, only those at the rank of Corporal or above will get prior service pay, at the rank which they were, and with actual time (all of Class B, and I think 1/3 Class A days) towards their IPC.  As it stands now, I've heard of many privates being given the same privilege.  After 3 years...

    Wikileaks and Julian Assange Mega-thread

I have followed this thread of events with only half-arsed enthusiasm. Given that the majority of us on this site actually have real responsibilities or at least a basic responsibility to national security, most of us completely understand the need for secrecy.  There are things that need to...

    Rank Lace for Uniforms (Navy)

Thank you very much.  That is precisely what I was looking for.  I asked the other Officers in the wardroom in HUNTER on Remembrance Day, and they didn't have a local tailor.  The only tailor that I was ever directed to go to while in the Army was the only one anyone mentioned having gone to.  I...

LF: Winter fur Cap Yukon style

I too would like to have access to the Yukon Cap.  I agree that the yukon cap would likely look more professional than a toque, and provide better head coverage.

CF 100 : Leave Pass [Merged]

There is a CF-100 copy inside the Subsidized Education Manager's Student guide, available at link below.  I'm not sure if it's formatted quite right. http://www.cda-acd.forces.gc.ca/dte-die/ser/smsg-eng.asp

    Rank Lace for Uniforms (Navy)

Thank you all for the info. I will not be eligible for promotion for some time; I’m just trying to determine common practice for my rank.  If every other rank needs the metallic lace, then it would look odd if one rank had a different lace.  I ordered the extra lace to do some shoulder boards I...
