Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

I must admit that some of the reporting on "is anything really changing" is a bit sickening. Especially since it all is being genereated by my old party which pretty much wasn't any better than the old Trudeau mob. I'm more than prepared to give the new bunch a reasonable time to come to the...

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

I'm not one to make excuses for senior leadership failures as much of this is due simply to the fact that the CAF has been under resourced for decades now and folks were making the best choices they could with the money they had. And yet while folks were having to make do in Afghanistan and...

    Trump administration 2024-2028

I think that I deserve congratulations. This is officially the 100th post in this thread where I've written a drive-by rebuttal and on reflection deleted it and just went about minding my own business. I feel better for it. 🍻

Informing the Army’s Future Structure - CAMO Discussion

By now you'll know that while a born cynic, I'm eternally optimistic. I'm seeing some positive changes in culture - for example that artillery matters and we need some and that it's bounced to the top of the priorities list. OTOH, my research for WAFGs has brought out the realization that true...

Informing the Army’s Future Structure - CAMO Discussion

I haven't read those and probably won't. I'm just hoping that someone will read all the documentation going back to the late sixties (1968 unification) and early to mid seventies during which time the air assets were carved up and assigned to different commands. The army - i.e. Mobile Command -...

    Liberal (Minority/Majority) Government 2025 - ???

I must admit in all honesty that when I retired we went to live in a house by the lake and my only thoughts were about doing construction on it and taking off to Florida four months of the year. Working more was the last thing on my mind. Since getting back into this writing and the gunner...

    Liberal (Minority/Majority) Government 2025 - ???

You two have never been more wrong about anything. There are a lot of burned bridges behind me. Not to mention that I am the only CAF officer having spent 3 years on Class B in Ottawa who didn't turn in his uniform for a consulting job. I revel in sleeping in and spouting nonsense when the...

Medium Cavalry: Critical Capability or Poor Man’s MBT?

That's what scares me. For starters I see more divisions but lighter ones - around 11,000 each. My view of expeditionary is the Baltics which should be based around a tracked heavy core in order to be able to switch to offensive action. I see the defence of Canada based around light (RegF...

    Snowbird Future

The headline editors for CBC are sure tilting towards the words "grounding" and "sidelining" when the thrust of the articles clearly are indicating a transition. At the pace that DND works, a 3 year hiatus to complete the transition appears quite normal. A shortened time frame would be...

Medium Cavalry: Critical Capability or Poor Man’s MBT?

I basically agree with everything in that we need a mix of forces. We need primarily one thing for domestic operations and primarily another for expeditionary. Note the use of the word "primarily" here. I'm not so sure we need a "varied Expeditionary Response Option." Expeditionary operations...

    Snowbird Future

I had a bit of a hiccup myself over this but, on reflection there are some good points which make this a reasonable choice. 1. Making it a cheap aircraft and cheap to maintain is always a good point; 2. Being able to operate it out of small airports without a major support tail makes it super...

    Snowbird Future

So let me, a ground pounder, ask the obvious questions. If the CT-157 is to be used as the aircraft for both the Advanced Flying Training Fixed-wing Program and the Advanced Flying Training Jet Program then: a) what is the fundamental difference anymore between these programs; and b) what is...

    Apaches

Bring back the Bell Jet Ranger (Kiowa) for that. It would be quite suitable for that role and cheap and easy to maintain. Or maybe a ground station with RRB drones. Even cheaper. We keep talking about the death of the tank, but, IMHO, the death of the helicopter in many of its role is probably...

17 May 2026: Two EA-18 Growlers crash at Mountain Home AFB air show

That angle is a lot cleared and makes it appear that the trail aircraft was slightly higher than the lead and couldn't see that lead was slowly climbing up. Those four guys need to go out and buy a lot of lottery tickets - after the impact, they had a tremendous amount of luck working for them. 🍻
