Canada seeks to buy Long Range Precision Rockets (probably US MLRS or HIMARS)

Testify! The last slide I have is from 2023 which predicted contract award in 2025 and implementation from 2025 - 2029. So yeah. Slippage. πŸ™

Canada seeks to buy Long Range Precision Rockets (probably US MLRS or HIMARS)

The Joint Fires Modernization project is designed to mate a wide variety of current and future ISTAR sensors with a wide variety of current and future effectors. I can't speak for "direct" links as I expect there will be a middle C2 and targetting layer. 🍻

None of bayonets, suppressors or priests have anything to do with LRPRS. :giggle:

Canada to Spend $5.0Bil on AEW Aircraft (Saab Globaleye)

So much to unpack. There is a preliminary question. Will the army be required at some point to field an expeditionary division? If yes, or a high likelihood of yes, then the army will have to design such a division and its theatre support organization from scratch and, in all probability have...

Indirect Fires Modernization Project - C3/M777 Replacement

I'm not sure which is worse - deicing the ~19 firing platform spade rings, or clearing the snow off what might need to be 17 tanks/tank turrets. At least with the firing platforms, Parks Canada's snow plows clean off the 400+ inch annual snowfall on a daily basis - there's just those damn spade...

Canada seeks to buy Long Range Precision Rockets (probably US MLRS or HIMARS)

The development of the CRV7 by Winnipeg's Bristol Aerospace the predecessor of DRDC and the current state of the Canadian space technology industry makes me believe that we could easily develop a broad based industry as long as government supports rather than hinders it. We need a certain scale...

GBAD - The return of 'FOBS'

Not sure if this update on the GBAD project has come to folks attention yet so . . . here it is. 🍻

Canada seeks to buy Long Range Precision Rockets (probably US MLRS or HIMARS)

They've already fired their first Australian built GMLRS and LM Australia plans on producing 4,000 per year by 2029. We've got the ability to do that as well, if we choose to. Personally, I'm interested in dual use (ship and shore) PrSMs with anti-ship capabilities. 🍻

Canada seeks to buy Long Range Precision Rockets (probably US MLRS or HIMARS)

To the best of my knowledge this will come as a stock M142 HIMARS on a standard FMTV M1140 truck frame. The M1140 has an armoured cab. This is what is included in the purchase as per the US Coop Agency press release of last Oct (note cost is in US$). Note there are no ammo resupply vehicles...

GBAD - The return of 'FOBS'

One of the things about AHEAD ammo is that it's fuze is set at the muzzle by an induction fuze setter. The fuze setting is dependant on data from a radar as to the target range which is then processed by a fire direction system that slews the gun to the target and directs the fuze setting to the...

    Littoral Operations

Interesting. The US Army's ship to shore capabilities have been in major decline since my Command and Staff Course visited Fort Eustis back in 1980. I think they are just down to one brigade now (the 7th Transportation Brigade (Expeditionary) with just two terminal battalions (the 10th and 11th...

. . . and readily available replacement modules well forward in the maintenance/logistics chain. Our VOR rates used to be low because parts were stocked in the parts truck of our batteries' maintenance sections. MRTs could get to work in the field right under a cam net. There was a reason why...

GBAD - The return of 'FOBS'

I'm taking this article with a large grain of salt. There's a vast difference as to the air defence capability of the 35mm gun system on a CV9035 and those of the 30 or 35mm guns that are part of the Skyranger system. Colour me sceptical. 🍻

"The tracked vehicles can go where wheeled can't." I rest my case. Yup. I think the steel v aluminum argument is a bit overdone. The thickness to weight to protection ratios aren't that much different albeit I buy the welding of steel in the field as a definite advantage. IMHO its the reactive...

Informing the Army’s Future Structure - CAMO Discussion

I actually like @PrairieFella 's slide and description as a general statement. I agree with you in that Cav should be a combined arms organization (some recce, some anti armour some AD, some infantry, some Pioneers, some indirect fire etc) but not as one that is to be slapped together when...

Indirect Fires Modernization Project - C3/M777 Replacement

Probably from me. :giggle: I'm dead set against them (right down to the 14.5mm one that get trucked out every five years or so for some FOO training.) They're not as costly as one thinks. For either an RCH or a HIMARS, reservists just needs a driver training chassis (which, if we go LAV 10 x...

Consideration for the Victoria Cross - Afghanistan

I see your point but this is the same government which since 2017 has ignored and rejected all attempts to reopen the issue. Yup. I see where someone might claim Brownie points but they'll be called out for being hypocritical if they try to lay blame. If they want to take credit without shifting...
