IUR is a cool idea but unfortunately it's a heavy piglet and has proprietary parts. I'd personally go the SA 15.7 way and knock off the front sight gas block, replace it with a low profile gas block and slip a lightweight free floating hand guard on it. I am still waiting to see CC release...
223 Remington (with a 223 Wylde chamber) was the only option so far. They were figuring out if they wanted to produce a 204 Ruger but not decided yet. Easiest way to swap calibers would be buying several uppers.
