Will be heading to BMQ for the 2nd as well. Infantry (english) for me.

Alleged Institutional Racism/solutions in CAF (merged)

Yeah I definitely agree with that. Living in Toronto I can tell you pretty much all my friends have never really thought of the CF all that much be they black, white, brown, w/e.

Alleged Institutional Racism/solutions in CAF (merged)

Growing up in an Indian family and around other immigrants I feel like "targeting" is a good thing. It's not something that's an obvious option for a lot of ethnic groups, especially once they come to Canada. For the most part it's not an issue of disapproval of the military, it's just...

    Infantry re-opening?

Ok, I think I misunderstood what you were getting at. I was just relating my own experience because I didn't want people thinking the only way to get a high PPR is normal "work experience".

    Infantry re-opening?

I'm a little confused, didn't you say: I don't mean to portray myself as an expert, I was just talking from my own experience with recruiting. I was a 4, one point shy of a 5 and I've spent the last 7 years in school with just a smattering of part-time or summer jobs in between. It doesn't...

    Engineer Regiment Pros/ Cons?

It was implied above, but I just wanted to confirm that you can be posted to 5CER without being officially bilingual. Having done all my pre-uni education in french immersion I'm quite interested in going there, but despite what my immersion certificate might say, 8 years after graduating I am...

    Infantry re-opening?

I think people are going to take this "5 years work experience" thing out of context. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that if one goes to school for a few years, does well, and gets a good job for ~2 years that's going to impress more than flipping burgers for 5 years. As for the PPR...

Canadian Forces Aptitude Test (CFAT) [MERGED]

Just as a reminder to others, you're not allowed to talk about specifics of the test, especially not any questions. Basically, so long as you can do basic arithmetic (yes, including division) by hand, that's all you need to "study".

    How long is Medical Test

I think he's just having some fun with you. But you should read up a bit on Military/CF History as well as current events- especially as they relate to your trade. As someone who's taken many trips to the Toronto RC on the TTC I'd say it's a good bet. It can be unreliable, but above-ground...

    Infantry re-opening?

Perhaps something was just lost in the communication. I imagine the recruiter was just saying that unless you have 5 consecutive years of post-secondary school/work experience, you won't be competitive enough. Working at the same company makes no sense... what if someone got a more impressive job?

what trades in the canadian forces have a v4 vision?

Not that there aren't a million threads on this, but laser surgery is also an option.

    a couple questions...

Well I think you still have lots of searching to do on the site. Most of your questions have been answered. As for your interests, they seem pretty broad. An interest in electronics and lead you to many trades in either the Army, Navy, or Air Force, so you'd have to think about each job...

    Process of joining

It's not the answer you want to hear, but study/review as best you can, regardless of how you do on the practice test. Regardless, you want to do your best, and the actual CFAT is quite a bit harder than the sample they give out, if only because the timing is tough to meet.

    What is this trade about?

Based on your questions I would say your first step should be either heading down to your local Recruiting Center, or calling the National Recruiting Center. A recruiter will spend some time talking to you about trades that might be up your alley.

    The Recruitment Process --- Question

When I was trying to narrow down my choices I dug through these forums for trade-specific posts to get a feel for things. Especially for some trades there's not much, but it is helpful if you're looking for more info than forces.ca provides.

    Need some advice

Plenty of info on the above to be found by using the search function on the site. To give a quick answer about your eyes: "serious" astigmatism might be an issue and make you a V4, but the only way to find out is to go through the recruiting process yourself and get to the medical. Most medical...

    Weight limits

BMI really just offers a rough picture of someone's health related to their size. If you can do a set of 60 good pushups, I think you're healthy enough. Just make sure you have a strong cardio base as well. In my experience, the higher BMI boxers I know struggle with their long-term endurance...

    statistics of joining

I agree with the above. The statistics don't really matter. Try to find a few jobs that you think you want to do and make yourself competitive for those jobs. Regardless of numbers, you're going to want to be competitive. For the time being, that means finishing your academics strong, getting...

Duel citizen, Canadian reserves? + other questions

Even though you can't visit an RC, I'd call the National Center if I were you as your questions are a little specific. Also, you should have an idea of what reserve unit you'd like to join and contact them as well.
