I was picking my military occupation and I saw this trade "primary reserve general service for non-commissioned members". Tried searching but no luck. Tried looking at force.ca video but nothing. Anyone know what is this about?

That's not a trade, that's just talking about serving as an NCM (not an officer) in the Reserves.

So basically it means you can't pick a trade and let them pick something for you?

Where are you seeing this phrasing?  If you see this on, say, a CF web page, maybe calling a recruiter or e-mailing the contact e-mail would be more helpful than posting questions without context to a public forum.

You have to decide what job you are applying for.

There are two general MOSIDs (trade/specifications) - one for officer, one for NCM.  They are sort of an "any" MOSID, and I believe the intent is to allow people to transfer from the RegF into the Reserves, when their occupation doesn't exist in the reserves.  Not available as entry occupations, anyway.  I'm not on DWAN at the moment, so only going off memory.

That could be what the OP is referring to.

Based on your questions I would say your first step should be either heading down to your local Recruiting Center, or calling the National Recruiting Center. A recruiter will spend some time talking to you about trades that might be up your alley.

I would totally do that if I don't have to work. Just going on this forum take risk on my part (boss sit behind me). I wish I could go to the recruiting center and bombard them with questions but I have a 5-9 job and their hours is 4-8. By the way, based on the context, I would say I see this from the online application for CF since I mentioned "I was picking the military occupation". Oh and I would email them, if only the Richmond recruiting center have an email posted @ forces.ca. Thanks for the useful reply though. It helps a lot.

The Richmond one won't have an email, but the national one does.
