Air force defends bonus pay system as pilots file dozens of grievances, refuse promotions

Ack but I can confirm it’s not what if scenarios. More than a handful impacted and more than another handful who refused promotions as a direct result. The few (that I know) that went through the process of going down a rank (on principle), don’t regret it but let’s just say there were CoC...

Air force defends bonus pay system as pilots file dozens of grievances, refuse promotions

I’m fine with most of that, I constrained my comments to the current construct. Also, other air ops trades haven’t consistently shown more aptitude than pilots for the planning/executing. Just my biased opinion.

Air force defends bonus pay system as pilots file dozens of grievances, refuse promotions

Agree, assuming we have enough majors to do the jobs. De-incentivizing promising prospects from becoming majors is a problem. Personally, I think the new pay scheme is a good idea and has potential. Unfortunately, the execution was less than ideal for those stuck in the transition. I’ll be...

Air force defends bonus pay system as pilots file dozens of grievances, refuse promotions

The problem is when the same experience/qualifications/time-in but the captain makes more than the major. Over time it will fix itself but for those stuck in the transition years, it’s pretty bad considering there’s easy ways to fix it. It’s a recognized problem but authority is unwilling to fix...

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

Interesting pod cast that discusses these issues. https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/the-line/id1708477959?i=1000731237622

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

@dapaterson Curious to hear your opinion. What are the best and worse parts of this policy? Some of the incentives look encouraging. Bonuses for years of service would seem to perpetuate the problem of retaining the wrong people too long though (but I guess we have bigger problems than that...

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

Does this not strike anyone as a flippant thing for the minister to say in this way at that venue? He’s not exactly managing expectations very well, hope he delivers but seems premature if he hasn’t dotted his i’s or crossed his t’s. We’ll see I guess, I hope my pessimism is proven wrong.

    2025 Federal Election - 28 Apr 25

This is a common opinion that I think seriously underestimates the sophistication of Quebecers, separatists and the Bloc. I’ll concede that I’m not an expert but as a BC boy who’s on his third posting to Valcartier, I think their understanding and nuance on politics is better than in the rest of...

CAF Security Forces [Split from RCN Anti Drone Weapon]

Good question, the press releases say that the first aircraft (F35, P8, MQ-9B) are being delivered 2026-2028. You would think some semblance of a capability would need to be in place before. The way it’s being discussed in this thread by experienced people and the lack of evidence of a tangible...

    Former Canadian Pilots Training PLAAF

Is this direction from higher or this is just you? I guess you probably won’t have to cross this bridge since they don’t want to visit and don’t have any official business to enter a restricted area so easy to refuse. Curious if you have sought concurrence on this policy from...

Two U.S. Navy SEALs Killed: New Report Reveals How U.S. Lost Its Elite Soldiers In Mere 47 Seconds During Anti-Terror Ops

The article mentions Iran/Houthi weapon flow so some pretty valuable stuff to protect on one side, and to capture on the other. Seems like they were ready for a fight and that firepower was a priority. RIP

Rise and Fall of the NDP - 2015 - ????

What’s up with the language he’s using these days; “bro” and “that’s what’s up”. I guess I’m getting old but come on.

2022 CPC Leadership Discussion: Et tu Redeux

Why do you want to know, so you can discredit whatever he says or make ad hominem attacks? Voting for PP/CPC isn’t exactly the bastion of strength either. If you think this interview reflected positively on PP, great. From his comments at the end of the interview I think he knows he reached too...

2022 CPC Leadership Discussion: Et tu Redeux

Darn it, my bad. The wording got me hook, line, and sinker. Should have looked into it more. So MPs get 3% accrual rate per year service and prior to 2016 it was payable at 55yo unreduced (65yo now)?

2022 CPC Leadership Discussion: Et tu Redeux

Interesting way of interpreting it, not sure the majority of the population would agree though. I think they might get some traction seeing he was eligible for a full pension at 31. I understand your point though, and would like to see some fiscal responsibility too.

Canada to Spend $5.0Bil on AEW Aircraft

Stupid question, where does the $5B figure come from? I remember the $300M in the DPU but haven’t seen anything else official. The first post seems like a click baity website. PS- going on 10 yrs in Quebec City, from BC. Wouldn’t change a thing.
