1940 USNI report on Fast Boats

My family and I did the run from Leningrad to the summer place in a Soviet hydrofoil in 1970. There were about 5 25' Russian hydrofoils sold here in the 1980's. Also we had the Boeing Hydrofoil doing runs to Nanaimo in the 1980's
 
Was confused for a bit because I'd always understood that Bras d'Or was built in the UK and brought to Canada on Bonnie when she came. But I see from the Wiki that was a different ship a precursor to it's later namesake that was never commissioned as a warship. Apparently still held in storage at the Museum of Science and Technology here in Ottawa.

The commissioned BRAS D'OR was built in Montreal. The one that was built in England was a smaller scale model of her for testing that was never a real ship, nor commissioned.
 
Interesting facts on her endurance, couldn't RAS.
  • About 2,500 nautical miles at 15 knots (diesel engines, hull-borne).
  • About 500 nautical miles at 40+ knots (gas turbine, foil-borne

    She didn't have the storage to stay at at sea for more than a few days. All her food was pre cooked and microwaved. I guess at the time the microwave was a fairly new item to have. She was not meant to do long deployments just coastal work.

I think that's what I said... The vessel that came over on the Bonnie was the precursor to HMCS Bras d'Or and was never commissioned. She was later renamed Baddeck.
