2025 Federal Election - 28 Apr 25

and you don't think that just maybe the government's profligate spending had maybe just a little bit to do with inflation? Just maybe

Read anti-Trudeau/LPC propaganda if that's what you prefer, but go look for any serious report/study on the causes of post-pandemic inflation and they will ALL tell you the same thing: it was caused by post-COVID demand issues related to economic stimulus and pent-up demand, which served to increase demand and, thus, inflation; 2. supply chain issues, both from the shutting down of production during Covid and global supply chain disruptions caused by the Ukraine way, which served to increase prices, and 3. changing demography, including a reduced labour force, that served to cut supply and increase prices.

You'll porbqbly noticed that the first item lists "economic stimulus", and if you want to classify that as "profligate spending", than that's on you. But realize that almost every government in the world, from the most liberal to most conservative, was relying on economic stimulus to keep their economies alive. If the CPC was in power, they would have done the exact samething, as there really was no possible other way to prevent a collapse of the livelihood of millions of the population.

His dad literally took manilla envelopes filled with cash. Not someone I'd look to for guidance.
Maybe not but the current lot seeking re election are no better. IMO they are far worse.

The west has a long list of grievances with the the GoC - I for one think the PQ needs to be weaned off the Federal Government teat and actually cooperate.
OK all provinces need to be weaned of the teat.

Has the carbon tax not played a notable role in the increased cost of groceries though?

(Since every player in the chain now passes the increased cost of doing business down the road. So the farmers have to charge more, and the trucking companies need for charge more, and the grocery store now has to charge more, etc)

I understand inflation has had it's affect on grocery prices. But my understanding has been the carbon tax has played a non-insignificant factor in those grocery prices rising... am I wrong about that?
Nobody is saying it has had no impact, but it seems it was negligible:

For British Columbia, our reading of the Statistics Canada’s social policy simulator and database suggests carbon taxes increased the average cost of food by about 0.33 per cent relative to what they would be in the absence of carbon taxes.

And for the impact of the carbon tax on inflation:

"We need to have control of our media" Doesn’t get any plainer than that.

There was this guy in 1933 or so in Germany that did that with a guy named.....Goebbels? IIRC

Oh and what about Pravda? And the CCP control of its media? And North Korea......

BTW who is that?? She needs to be challenged on this.

Someone asked another poster if they had read Carney’s book Values. (I wonder if the member asking the question has read Values?)
Jordan Peterson did............twice.
Now I expect liberals will pooh pooh him as a crackpot. It's what they've been pushing for a few years because he breaks their balls bowls.
I find him extremely intelligent and his measure of trudeau was spot on. So it also is of Carney.

Did he cry in what ever video he made on it? There’s a montage somewhere about that I think.

He’s in Arizona or something now last I heard. Canceled all his Canadian tours due to lack of interest. Couldn’t sell enough tickets.

Deficit spending during the pandemic was a reasonable response. It doesn't excuse deficit spending before and after the pandemic. Will there ever be any time which is not deficit spending time for the LPC?

Every election there are reasons people come up with to declaim that the conservative leader and the party are too conservative or too extreme or something. The details change, but the theme is always there. The conservative politicians are never quite perfect enough for some conservatives. Later, some of the complainers amuse the rest of us by reflecting on how so-and-so wasn't so bad after all.

Many conservatives give the impression that what they want to conserve is whatever progressives have introduced.
