According to ctv the final number for the liberals if 169, so 3 seats shy of a majority. Probably to most stable minority we will ever see
With those numbers, Carney will be looking to entice a few floor crossers over to join his government. CPC needs to be live to this possibility as they consider their next moves. There’s already RUMINT of CPC looking for a riding to parachute Poilievre into so he can stay on. I could see that rubbing a few people the wrong way.

Safe riding would be Renfrew. Also allows the party to move Cheryl Gallant to other things…

Especially voters, and if cpc voters blame him for the loss, they may just vote to prevent him from taking the seat

It's messed up MPs are allowed to do this.

Why? A party is a party, you vote for your representative. If the representative doesn't do what the constituents voted for, they can turf them.

That said, I think recall legislation should be put in place to hold Parliamentarians to account at all times.

Not to mention who would end up living in Stornoway, right?
Whoever they select to be Leader of HM Loyal Opposition, which won't be PP until gains a seat.

They did it in other ridings as well. That one just got more names.

Legal, and I understand their reasons but I don’t think it’s helpful to democracy to be doing that. That being said, tightening rules to prevent it would likely be worse from a democratic perspective.
Outside of the 'mainstream' parties, the today number of votes cast for the ballot horde was under 1000 out of a total of 86300. I think democracy is safe.

Agreed but all it does is delay results and cause accessibility issues for voters. That’s the part that isn’t good

Yup, it was stupid and inconvenient, but I don’t see a way to meaningfully stop it that doesn’t risk stifling democratic rights.
