2025 U.S. - Venezuela conflict

China doesn't recognize Lai Ching-te as the democratically elected leader of Taiwan.

Seems if you don't recognize the leader of a country as legally elected, you can swoop in and snatch them.
What do the people of Taiwan think? That’s the more appropriate question. I’m surprised I have to point this out.

Listen, if a cop just walked up and shot a drug dealer, rapist and child molester in the head, nobody would cry for said drug dealer, rapist, and child molestor.

But it would not make it legal. That cop would go to jail.

What the USA did today was the nation state equivelant of walking up to a drug dealer and abducting them. And it opens the door to other nations doing the exact same thing. Key among them, China.

The people of Canada don’t like to see a legitimate election winner take power?

People in Canada are generally opposed to Trump, and probably have some serious concerns when it comes to the US not respecting the sovereignty of its neighbours after releasing a policy document claiming the Americas as its sphere of influence.

Well, there is always Guantanamo. If they realize that the 'arrest' was a tad shaky, they could move him out of reach of the US "justice" system.

This. He doesn't give two shits about the drugs. To him, drug addiction only impacts losers. It's all about the oil.
Former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández, sentenced last year to 45 years in prison for his role in a drug-trafficking operation that moved hundreds of tonnes of cocaine to the United States, was released from prison following a pardon from President Donald Trump, officials confirmed Tuesday.
How to tell it had nothing to do with drugs.

This was 5 weeks ago.

That’s a common analysis fueled by media and politics, sure.

Ok… your comparisons are now bordering on the ridiculous.

Being opposed to the current administration's specific policies or actions isn't being Anti American.
That’s true. But we know the collective is certainly anti-US bias and that’s amplified with Trump as POTUS. Where were the cries of outrage when Libya went down?

I'll like to introduce you to UN resolution 1973.

Can you point to a similar resolution regarding Venezuela?

Okay, lets frame it this way.

Was this, in any way shape or form, legal in the eyes of international law?
I’m not sure if it is, or if that is relevant. I’d want to also look back and compare it to any of the past actions taken under all other US presidents to decide if this is an outlier rogue president doing evil things.

I’m as agnostic on this as I was on Libya.
BS. You are all for this. You can have that position. I can see the arguments for it. You just aren’t making them.
If the analysis’ here could be done without the tinge of anti-Americanism, it might be even more interesting.
Again, you are taking that position. The questions and the discussion upsets your position so “it’s anti American”.

That’s your only rebuttal and it’s weak.

I’m not sure if it is, or if that is relevant.
So the USA breaks international law and it's not relevant to whether people support the US action or not.

I would say, its KINDA VERY IMPORTANT.

Especially with this administration saber rattling with other nations in the western hemisphere...Greenland....US
