2025 U.S. - Venezuela conflict

Libya wasn't unilateral, wasn't preceded by the US executing alleged drug smugglers with hell fires, was actively murdering its own population, and wasn't being justified by claims of stolen oil.
When in doubt...whataboutism.

Seriously though, the UN did pass resolution 1973 before air strikes commenced in Libya. It wasn't even a good whataboutism.

To be honest, this is hilarious and why I just don't take too many people seriously here anymore.

If Biden or Obama had taken out Maduro, the left "Its about time we take these evil dictators out and protect democracy in these nations, protect the freedom and rights of everyone..."

HOWEVER since it was Trump (and similar arguments for Bush in Iraq) "OMG, what a horrible criminal, how dare he invade a foreign sovereign nation unjustly..."

Honestly as the years go by, its repeat ideology.

I don't like Trump's bluster and total lack of diplomacy but sometimes he gets it right, like bombing Boko Haram in Africa or removing a dictator long overdue to be removed.

"And when the last law was down, and the Devil turned 'round on you, where would you hide, Roper, the laws all being flat?"

Conversely, to adapt a phrase, "a liberal world order is not a suicide pact".

Decapitating the leadership is almost always the easy part. The leaderless people will enjoy a short round of celebration. Then the hard work begins. External hands off risks more of the same. External hands on risks incompetent interference.

Meanwhile, the "No Kings" and "No New Wars" people flip their scripts. Neo-cons everywhere must be secretly rejoicing.

Nothing has been newly legitimized that wasn't already legitimized in the past.

And ofcourse there is the whole saying the quiet part loud:

Bullshit, you’re just projecting your own political views. I feel comfortable saying any of us here talking about the illegality and wrongness of this act under Trump would have held the same opinion under any president of any party. I certainly would have.

Rebuilding a nation is HARD work. And it takes time, lots of time. We had no issue helping Germany get back on its feet post WW2. Then we look at Afghanistan post Soviet war, I don't know how accurate Charlie Wilsons War was as a movie but damn, you help defeat the Soviets but refuse to help rebuild Afghanistan? I suspect there was consequences for that.

It’s more like this: “Maduro is bad”

Trump removes him.

“Trump shouldn't have done that!”

All the whole time complaining he hasn't removed Putin.
Oh, I must have misunderstood what you typed, then ...
It’s fascinating reading you all condemn the US and support the dictator Maduro who stole power and ruined a country.

Don't care how upset you feel and you can call bullshit on me all day. Mauro is OUT. Thats a big step in the right direction. Now, there are many more dictators to take down and regimes need knocking off, but lets see what happens. Only so many Tomahawk missiles.

What's actually funny is the people wrapping their heads in knots coming up with altruistic reasons for this while Trump is at least being fully honest that this is 100 percent about controlling their oil.

Trump news conference.

Best operation since WW2.

We run Venezuela now.

American oil companies will go in and seize their oil.

Yup, just started watching. He also they they were and are prepared to launch larger second strikes but he doesn’t think they need to now.

The claims are staked.
  • The United States will politically control Venezuela until an unspecified ‘transition’.
  • U.S. oil companies will take over the Venezuelan oil industry.
  • The U.S. Military will enforce these aims.

No lack of clarity about exactly what this is.

Trump just recently pardoned the former president of Honduras who was convicted in US Federal court of drug trafficking and firearms charges.

Trump just invaded Venezuela and violently kidnapped their president and is charging him with drug trafficking and firearms charges.

WTF?

The lunacy of trump foreign policy is only made worse by the lunacy of trump domestic policy.

I will always say the most refreshing part of the Trump presidency is his complete lack of obfuscation.

Rubio: This is about a dictator who oppresses his people.

Hegseth: It’s about drugs that pose an imminent threat.

Trump: Nah, it’s about oil.

Is there any indication they control them politically at this stage? Unless the current regime is spooked enough to bend the knee?
  • U.S. oil companies will take over the Venezuelan oil industry.
Same as above I guess. But this seems to have been the goal.

Submit or else.

UN resolution

USA breaks international law

breaking international law

the eyes of international law

UN believes international law

All meaningless nonsense - laws, policies, resolutions, etc, if you don't have the means of enforcing them. Maybe the international community should do something about it instead of calling for emergency meetings or convening/drafting letters. Oh look, twitter posts will help!

Yes, Putin and Xi are very happy that international law is meaningless.
