2026 NDP Leadership Race & Pick

Its political leadership we are talking about here: the leader goes where his/her followers tell him/her to ... reluctantly when they get to the point where there are no more delaying options left.

On the NDP leadership race

Wonder if these meet the want :)

Interesting in the one article to see my friend Tony McQuail is considering running for leadership of the NDP. He is a good, sensible man (a retired farmer) and he could steer the party away from radicals. I am not sure he is ready for the cutthroat of politics. I will call him later and see what he is thinking.

Is he a cis male from a non-equity seeking group?

Tom Mulcair tried to do that and got stabbed in the back for his efforts to make the party relevant.

At some point in the not too distant future I can see a potential leader for any one of the parties telling the special interest groups:

"Go piss up a rope" or words to that effect.

Given their electoral participation rates, I doubt it...

Electoral Participation Among Canadian Sexual Minorities

Overall, these results indicate two primary takeaways. First, there are indications of mobilization among sexual minorities, but this phenomenon seems to apply mostly at the federal level. Second, this mobilization is observed despite the selection mechanism, which suggests that sexual minorities should vote less due to their over-representation in certain sociodemographic variables associated with lower voter turnout. In our model, we find some indications of a mobilization effect even when keeping respondents' age, education, and gender constant. Third, the turnout rates differ among gay or lesbian and bisexual individuals, suggesting that we should not consider sexual minorities as a single group, at least when it comes to voter turnout.

I spoke to Tony McQuail today. He is seriously thinking about running. We talked about a few points, I will not bring them up here at this time.

Personally, I suggest if your NDP and if Tony runs, I recommend supporting him. He was a long time Holistic management instructor (a student of Allan Savory) and using this, he can bring some true objective insights to the NDP.

He'll get outvoted by the progressives, who will then flock to whoever their next messiah is, in a mass exodus from the Liberal Party. The NDP is the true fringe left, Trudeau was just able to outflank Singh but completely ignore the center.

Don’t know if I’m as optimistic as he is on merging with the Team Green, but good to see a “real person” have a go at it. Best of luck to him!

Starting a new thread .....
... and will bring relevant posts from elsewhere in as well.

Also, efforts to keep this thread on the race itself while discussing "WTF's up with Team Orange in general?" here, well ....

If they are smart, Nathan Cullen or attempt to woo Tom Muclair back. But I suspect they will go for a candidate that is big on checking all the PC boxes and short on competency.

I wonder if the legacy hierarchy of the current NDP can be displaced and their way of thinking once the new leader is selected.

The requirements for signatures to support a candidate seem to smack of Jagmeet's way of thinking, and lets be frank, he is gone, his stupidity needs to leave with him.
