2026 US-Denmark Tensions/End of NATO

And the odds of a Trump-aligned Republican presidential nominee and president-elect will go up.

"OK, we're not going to behave like Trump" would be a great place for Democrats to start.
Notice how Vance has been really quiet lately? Not at lot of profile regarding Venezuela, no chirping about Minnesota.

The Compact of Free Association (COFA) establishes a unique relationship between the United States and three Pacific island nations—the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI), and Palau—granting them independence while providing U.S. economic assistance, defense, and security in exchange for exclusive military access and denying other nations strategic access. Key provisions include U.S. financial aid for health, education, and infrastructure, and allowing citizens of these Freely Associated States (FAS) to live and work in the U.S. without visas, supporting U.S. strategic presence in the Indo-Pacific amidst rising competition with China.
Is there any indication that the people of Greenland are wanting, impoverished, fear for their security (other than from who's name shall not be spoken)? Honest question.

Quick question.

We have a system built on laws. Just like the US version of liberalism envisioned after WW2.
What would we make of our system if our parliament and courts were inhabited by thieves, murderers, rapists and fraudsters?
Who vets the General Assembly of the UN?

The system is predicated on good people doing good things for good reasons.

At what point do the right thing and the legal thing diverge?
When one or the other has the greater potential for power or money or both.

I think Vance is fighting an internal battle between those that view him as a ‘traitor’ because of who he married. I feel that this has cause a lot of stress on his marriage as of late and he’s focus has turned there.

The folks of Greenland are not in any worse shape than their relatives in Nunavut and possibly in better shape. I don't know. You would have to ask them.

But I know of many instances of people in comfortable circumstances feeling constrained and seeking greater freedom, independence. Even if that means less comfortable, less secure, circumstances.

The Inuit and the Norse have 1000 years of joint history. There are pro and anti factions. Some may look for a better deal. Some may be happy with Copenhagen. I honestly don't know.

....

Just like I honestly don't know how Canadaa has held together for 158 years with Brits, Americans, French, Dene, Algonquin, Iroquois, Inuit, Republicans, Monarchists, Catholics, Anglicans, Presbyterians, Latter Day Saints, NDPers, Communists, Separatists, Chinese, Khalistanis, Twelvers and Masons. I am sure that there is one True Belief for our one True Canada but I don't know. I am only a True Scot.

His press conference was pretty bad today, the second half he contradicted himself several times from things he just said in the first half regarding Minnesota. The reporters even noticed and started to zero in a couple times.

Traitor? Really? We still associating Trump supporters with racism?

Usha Vance was born in San Diego to Telugu parents.
The Telugu are Dravidians, or the indigenous Indians with a blood line as old as the aborigines of Australia.
The Dravidians were displaced by the Aryan Hindus, who were displaced by the Moghul Muslims who begat the Sikhs who wanted nothing to do with either Hindus or Muslims. And the Dravidians are associated with the Dallits, the untouchables at the bottom of the class structure.

Kamala Harris is of Tamil Brahmin extraction. She comes from the upper, and opposite, end of the caste scale.

I can’t tell if your serious or joking.

But am I referring to this recent article.

It’s funny, he says that but also takes a “no enemies to my right” popular front attitude with regards anti-semites and racists like Nick Fuentes, Candace Owens and other low-lifes that unfortunately now populate some of the younger ranks of the GOP.

Your premise is increasing the odds of a trump aligned candidate.

My rebuttal is that it will be a Trump aligned candidate regardless.

You haven’t said anything that shows it will be a non aligned candidate or even the remote possibility that it will be.

So yes, irrelevant.
For the second (presidential) election, the alternative to the Trump-aligned Republican is the Democratic candidate. My point is that behaving miserably on par with Trump risks decreasing the possibility of the Democrat winning.

None. They might have a slightly higher degree of independence under a COFA (eg. their own UN rep). Public opinion doesn't favour a relationship with the US. They've obviously been talking with Denmark about a COFA-like arrangement there.

I suppose that first you would have to define "who is a Greenlander". As the 56,000 citizens (permanent legal residents?) of Greenland are not exclusively Inuit (85-90%), how would the USA judge those deserving of their largesse? Would place of birth in Greenland be required? Would a Greenlander have to be physically present on the ice covered slab of rock? Would the 18,000 to 20,000 Greenlandics who live in Denmark have a say, or the few thousand who attend school there?

And what would their citizenship status be after assimilation? If the example of other American territories (Puerto Rico, those in the Pacific) were followed, would Greenlanders have to wait from 20 to 50 years before being granted citizenship, and that would be based on them being wanted for military conscription, or having to sign an oath of allegiance, or being physically present in their territory of birth, or not having or being able to have any other citizenship, or allowing their territory to be used for nuclear weapons testing?

What would be the benefit of that magical citizenship? Having the President of that country throw rolls of paper towel to you when your home has been washed away?

LOL. I wonder who came up with that calculation…

I'm not laughing. That is being discussed concurrent with a COFA agreement. It is a sweetener along with "independence", a security guarantee, access to the US.... in fact largely what Canada has, or used to have.

50,000 people at 10,000 apiece = 500,000,000
Even at 100,000 we are only looking at 5,000,000,000.
How much do we reckon the Maduro raid cost? Or the recent naval blockade?

Maybe Denmark should ask them to be delivered to Greenland...just in case.
