2026 US-Denmark Tensions/End of NATO

And like Stephen Harper said, I’m willing to take an economic hit to remain independent and maintain our liberal (in a broad sense) values and less susceptible to foreign interference, influence and intimidation campaigns from malevolent powers.

I really don’t know why you see Beijing as more benevolent than the Trump Administration. Neither can be trusted.
Harper was fortunate enough not to be in a trade war with the USA.

Being in a trade conflict with 40 percent of the global GDP is a bad plan.

And again, if the opposition was on board with taking that pain on principle, hey, golden.

But instead...

Yeah, Carney will go for economic growth.

If europe and asia dumped American debt, the market crash would grind america to a halt pretty fast

That harms their economies. Just threaten to let European companies ignore American patents, while regulating American tech tightly and launching anti-trust investigations. The ensuing stock and bond crash that follows the next day will have Republicans themselves calling for impeachment.

Only if those molotovs have cameras livestreaming deaths back to the American public.
The nice thing about those cocktails though is that they show dissent at the most basic grass roots level. Very much asymmetrical warfare.

Yeah, drones are cheap and psychologically devastating. Molotovs were good for their time, but it's the 21st century.

There is no way the American public tolerates their troops being blown to bits being posted all over Reddit

Maybe, but never estimate European resolve individually. Today the Danish pension fund dumped 100 million in US debt which played a part in over a trillion in US wealth being wiped out

He's such a greasy little turd, it's not like he would do anything different, if he hadn't missed an easy layup.

More importantly,if Carney doesn't do things like move towards China to get the economy moving, is PP going to be reasonable, cut him slack for standing on principle? Are we going to hear Pierre Poilievre say

"The Canadian economy is struggling, people are going through hard times. But I stand with the prime minister in holding firm agaisnt China, and will work with the prime minister in mitigating the effects on our farmers and ranchers. I will oppose him where necessary but on this, we stand united."

Or

"Due to this prime minister, Canadians are losing their livelihoods. After a decade of failed liberal policies Canadians are poorer today than 10 years ago. Our economic growth is amongst the worse in the world. And who is to blame? Mark Carney!"

And people act surprised when Carney goes to China when he cannot get a deal with the US.

At this point, whatever he says is completely irrelevant and there is no point even working with him as he will just be against whatever someone suggests reflexively.

Almost like he doesn't actually care about Canadians and just wants to be in power, and will do whatever he thinks gets him there. Too bad he's inherently unlikeable.

It’s widely recognized and understood in economics that emerging/developing economies tend to have easier and higher GDP growth percentage, because they’re starting from a much smaller start point and have more low hanging fruit. That graph includes a whole bunch of developing economies and in doing so really skews the comparisons.

Are you saying PP is intellectually dishonest?

Say it ain't so!

Anyways, when the opposition is playing games like this, Carney does have pressure to achieve results. He did that with China, as much as some people won't like it.

Wouldn't that be a war crime?
Why would it be a war crime? There’s no law of war against showing photos or videos or active combat. Now, prisoners of war are supposed to have some protection “from insults and public curiosity”. How that’s defined in modern times is not super clear. But nothing prohibits the broadcasting of combat footage.

Wasn't an issue in Vietnam or since, though Russia seems to have issue with it. Just cant seem to put my finger why.....

Maybe they are talking about the double tap drone strikes which goes agaisnt killing soldiers out of the fight.

But that's the only real wars crime I can think of.
