Sorry! My recollection was that Sikorski developed the S61 as civilian derivative of the Sea King. A bit like the Cyclone / S-92, but in reverse. Apologies if that wasn't the case.

We have no order or even an alert. It sounds like Khe San over there with all the choppers and water bombers.
I’m just waiting for the regional district to authorize turning on our water guns to wet the interface if necessary.
Other than that, steaks going on the barby….

Nothing for not, but that fire has grown 5 times over in the past 4 hours. And my swimming pool is filing up with ash and embers.
The entire north head of Okanagan lake is ordered to evacuate. Still nothing here, but I can hear the explosions of propane tanks and what not over there so clearly there is some structure damage. Choppers busily flying everywhere. It’s never boring around here in the summers.

My son lives in Vernon and his wife's family have a house on that reserve. They've been evacuated and are now safe with my son.
It's a nightmare there. But it's not an unusual event, either.

I live just north of Vernon closer to Armstrong. That fire advanced 7-8 km in about half an hour with gusts over 115 km and steady blow at 80 on Saturday. It was held at a gravel quarry but today it picked up and burned around that in a westerly direction.
It’s been non stop choppers and tankers.
If the fire gets into Yankee Flats it really could burn straight to Salmon Arm. Today they are working pretty damned hard to get it under control.
But now there an even bigger fire burning 20kms south- making a huge pyro cloud today.
Northern edge of a heat dome creeping up here as well. Mid week temp will be 36-38 but likely 3-4 degrees hotter on the valley floor.

Sounds like op lentus BC fires 2026 electric boogaloo is a matter of days away then.
BC hydro announced yesterday due to power issues that fuel stations arent working across the east kootaneys. This will hampering evacuation efforts, as well as mutual support from other governments etc.

I’m not sad to see some of that burn, here’s why;
I’m standing here watching the 215’s pound the piss out of an area on the OKIB reserve notorious for drug labs. It’s like an Arc Light strike on the Ho Chi Meth Trail. That’s a good thing.
If the fire moves North up Salmon road to just behind Glennema, (we call it Glen Enema) it should burn off the UXO from the old mortar range in there, and we suspect a few more narco facilities.
I’m very sad for the houses lost and people homeless. I’m rejoicing at the criminal clean up that’s occurring. Sorely needed, but it’s a sad state of affairs to have to write that.
