What's hard to digest is that some here on this forum still think "we're" not the target. Read your own rhetoric.

We, as in specifically Canadian soldiers, are not the target.
We, as western, predominatly white, Christian armies occupying Islamic lands, are the target. Seeing how they are also going after US, British, German and other NATO soldiers....this seems to be the case.

Exactly the point. The bad guys don't see ANY difference between us and other coalition forces; therefore, we are indeed "targets" no matter how some try to spin this the other way around.

Oh, we're the target. I think that the enemy believes that if they can kill a few of us now, that our country will lose it's will and withdraw our forces.
The 'West' is the general target. The enemy forces targeting convoys outside of Canadian compounds, are hardly hunting for Americans........

That road is actually not that close to our compound, its a few klicks away. Every Coalition partner travels the same routes, we were just the first to go down that route that day....

The guys here dont typically actively target any specific nationality - they just set something up and wait for the first coalition "target" to enter the arc.
One exception being the attack on the Cdn Embassador last year - but there is more to that story than can be told here...
and Last week we got info that they are going to try to actively target the Contractors that provide security at the US Embassy
(yawn)
Being "white" with a gun here makes you a target (and even the unarmed NGO's get targeted sometimes.)
