I listened to that one.

From looking up Avi Loeb a bit more, it seems he’s become more than a bit discredited in the scientific community in recent years. I wonder if he’s maybe pulling a Hellyer, but with the benefit of a tenured professorship?

I am no where near qualified to make any comment on the subject matter or the personalities involved, even though I do find the topic interesting.

But I will say someone being an outlier/running counter to the mainstream of a field no longer holds what it once did, to me.

Yup, totally fair. And I think that’s exactly a part of his self-marketing. At the end of the day in this sort of science we’ll see the proof in the pudding, or not. Though he himself concedes that he’s basically just saying “let’s look with an open mind at this admittedly unlikely possibility”.

Anyway, be fun to see how this plays out. I suspect that as our ability as a species to survival our solar neighbourhood improves, we’ll probably find that there’s lots more flying through than we ever realized.

A part of me hopes he's right and that the aliens will take pity on us and save us from ourselves.

Are they going to beam down and disintegrate all the politicians?

Totally agree on both points.

Avi Loeb may be a very very smart man, and far better at pretty much anything/everything requiring complex math than most people...but some of his statements (whether right or wrong) can't be more than anything other than pure speculation.

I was listening to a news report about this the other day, and the "SME" they had on was beyond ridiculous in his suggestions... 😅

I think this will play out similar to how Omuamuah (sp?) did. Interesting, may behave differently than some will predict due to various influencing factors, but will ultimately just be something fascinating to study and have relatively little observation time

...

A few years ago I saw an animation of how our solar system ACTUALLY moves compared to what we were taught in school, and it kinda blew my mind.

The way our solar system moves through space, when factoring in that we are located in the outer area of one of our galaxy's spiral arms (and our galaxy is spinning and traveling thru space also) makes for a much more chaotic existence than I ever realized.

(It's just hard to notice because everything else is also in perpetual motion)

Here's a short that kinda shows what I am trying to explain...
