Hello to all, well I have never had a reason to hit this website up with a question though I knew as my time ran down with the British Army I would have to turn this corner and toss a few questions.  Since leaving the forces I have moved back to Canada and am enrolled in university here and am looking at a carrier in the reserve forces. Though the group I am looking at joining this time is the Navy under carrier as a ships diver as this is along the carrier path I am choosing for myself after my studies are done in the fields of welding and commerical dive school. Though I would like to add this reserve work to my CV and still enjoy a good drinking club.  I also know this is an Army website, though finding a site dedicated to Navy questions has come up fruitless.  So the question remains are you able to enter the Canadian Navy and after specialist training proceed on to diver training with the reserve force?

Cheers, Sphinx

Being Army, I could be wrong, but I think that if you are looking for a career in the Naval Reserves as a Ships Diver or Clearance Diver, you are out of luck.  I believe that the only way you can be either one is to join the Regular Force.

That is where I am finding the confusion in my Canadian friend, I hear one thing then the other. Possibly would you know any links to carriers with the Reserve units, I have searched your websites and find them rather blah when it comes to information, unless it is all a ploy to get you in to the recruiting office (haha) Which if it is then in England we tell too much on the net and would explain why are recruiting numbers are down.

Port inspection diver is a reserve trade as far as I know...

Any links that you would know of mate done some research on this website but find out more information about Combat Divers, something that doesnt really fit in with my current carrier plans.

Take care, Sphinx

Is English your Second Language?

I ask, as your spelling is wrong for many of the more common place words that you are using.

combat divers are mainly composed of people from the engineer trade, of course jtf2 have their own combat divers too. I think any combat arm can apply for combat diver but really not sure about that one.

Navy:
Reserves are only PID's-Port Inspection Diver
Regular Force- Ships Team Diver then if motivated enough Clearance Diver

I would have to say no, just sleepy and do not pay attention to the typing skills, spent my time in the field never infront of the keys. lol
Crow, cheers for the information, I will look further into it.

Not to go too far away from the OP's question, but is there any opportunity for a NAVRES member to qualify as a ship's diver?

And for the OP: http://www.recruiting.forces.gc.ca/engraph/navy/jobs_e.aspx

I was just going to mention that. Your question are best anwsered by conatacting the recruiting centre. I know many reserve divers. Unfortunately you will not be able to join as a diver. it will be something you will have to wrok towards. Gl sphinx :)

U can join direct as a PID but not as a CD.

No more free lobster.  They did that allot and someone ratted on them.   :'( We are taught why we shouldn't do that in our ethics course now  :P.  Recruiting center is the way to go.  PID from what I here is a good trade.  Sounds like they have a pretty jammy time too.
