I currently work as a PC repair technician and I don't like the way things are going with my job. I want to do better things with technology but my lack of funds has prevented me from going to college or university. I thought why not check out the army, because I want to do something different. I'm tired of working at PC repair/retail sales shops. (I don't think i single one of them have ever heard of the ESA of 2000).

The ATIS Technician trade is very interesting to me and it has a lot of the different skills that I was hoping to learn. I want to join up ASAP, however theres the issue of my previous pot use. I hear they want you clean for six months, and don't ever lie about anything. Keeping that in mind I also hear it sometimes takes 1-2 years to even get in under normal circumstances. Should I apply anyways and just see what they want me to do?

Another question is what kind of social life will I have doing such a trade? Do i still get the freedom of leisure after working hours (such as internet/email/chat or videogames) ?

It costs nothing to apply so go check it out at the nearest recruiting centre or go on line. If you want to go to college you can apply for Non Commissioned member subsidized education plan (NCMSEP) and if accepted  the CF would pay you to go to school plus pay your tuition / costs.

Social life after you get past basic training for sure and technical training possibly is your business.

So get on line or drop in and apply. We can answer your detailed questions easier  then.
