Advanced Infantry Training

When I was in the reserves back in the day, I distinctly remember a QL4 being offered referred to simply as AIT or Advanced Infantry Training.  This was in addition to AIT-Recce.

I remember seeing course photos that showed rope bridges, small boat drills, maybe demo - oriented stuff.  In all honesty, it's been awhile.

Just curious if anyone knows in the reserve world if such an animal still exists for infantry types - an advanced skill set in infantry, different from the Recce course.

Thanks

Don't know. I noticed your post, checked, found you were right and deleted the second one. I'm guessing he wanted to bring it up again? A simple bump would've sufficed. No idea why he'd try claim yur thread though. Anyway, it's gone.

I'm curious about this thread also...

Back in the day when I was a reservist, everything was still the simple QL2, QL3, QL4, QL5, etc, etc, etc.

What is there in the form of advanced training opportunities for reservists?  I remember people would try to get pioneer courses and QL4 Comms courses with little luck;  what is there now, since the whole training system has been revamped?

When I was in, everyone wanted FMC Dvr Whl, AVGP and of course AIT-Recce.  Those were the hot buttons.  Comms was a popular one as well as was the machine gunner course.

Nowadays I understand you can get platoon support weapons(which I assume has supplanted the old MG course), Dvr Whl, Recce...and I'm not sure what else.

When I was in they were moving between QL2/QL3/QL4 and calling it GMT Common, BTT, STT...Oh God, to think of all the permutations and re-organization of a few damn acronyms makes me so annoyed it's not even funny.

What is funny is how the old QL concept just won't go away.  It's still sticking around until some committe somewhere is formed to determine that it would be easier to just stick with it, and we'll eventually move back to it...

Just for your info the new system is called DP. For instance the platoon weaopns crse is DP2A IPSWQ(Infantry Platoon Support Weapons Qualification).

When i first joined (1989) I remember some people mentioning an Advanced Infantry Course, but I was under the impression that it was just a unit thing.

I've never seen one of these course take place.

I'm a big fan of the QL system of training, not only for its simplicity - but because its more efficient in terms of producing numbers.  Now, I'm no expert on the training system used now, back when I was with my unit's MTD things were different.  But the QL system of training was very simple and effective - you learned a set amount of skills in each QL, and needed to successfully negotiate one course before starting another.  Now that we have 5000 new troops to train, I think it would be much more efficient to run QL styled courses - instead of all this BMQ/SQ/IQ, etc, etc.

Again, its been a few years - but why'd we get away from the QL series of courses in the first place?
