Hello I have been reading your stuff it was very helpful and some good info. I am applying to the Canadian army. The reserves, however my main purpse is to go to Afghanistan, will I be given the chance to go and fight. It's Feb 09 and I sure dont want to miss it. Is the army always sending troops up there how easy is it to go there, do they ask you right a way? What is basically the best possible way to go there, if it takes joining the reg force, I'll do it. And are you automatically put in to training for Afghanistan if you join the reg force? Thanks. :cdn:

If you are joining for the sole purpose of going to Afghanistan then, you need not apply.

I'd be more focused on just getting in the Army than worrying about a tour.

An no Reg Force Soldiers don't do work up training as soon as they get in; still do the same BMQ, SQ, etc like everyone else. They only start work up training if their unit(or they are augmenting a unit) is standing up for a Roto.

Depends on the unit, trade, etc you are on how fast till you go on tour. Two months after I completed my QL3 an was posted to an Infantry unit I started work up training. I've gone an come back an some guys from my QL3 have gone on tour aswell, others haven't yet.

An yes, the Army is sending people there every Roto; both Reservists an Regular Force and will continue to do so until the CF pulls out.

Why is that I want to go over for my country, it has done a lot for a lot generations of my blood. This in my mind is the best way I can help, don't take it the wrong way.

Sorry.

This topic has been covered before by others just joining the site, and not having taken a look around first.

Try a SEARCH for some of the subjects that involve Training for Afghanistan, Deploying, Reserves, Reserves Deploying, etc.

Before this turns into a cesspool under a bridge.................LOCKED !

Hello everybody what is the trade that would almost garauntee deployment to AfhganistanÉ :cdn:

Are you serious?

I would have thought you might have learned something from your past few posts.

Your posts seem to tell that you may have a wee tad of an obsession here.

Hello everybody just want some input. I understand the language they speak in Pakistan which is Hindi and I can speak it. Also understand Urdu. I am still enrolling for full-time but I want to know if that will give me a huge advantage as to going to Afghanistan. I was told by some people very few that this is something that is very rare and almost garauntees deployment. I am applying for the infantry got my application in.

No, you will not find yourself being accelerated towards deployment because of language skills.

Every full moon you feel the need to ask the same question do you?

How is that possible, this would be huge in translating and countless other stuff that could help such undercover work, relaying valuable information to the unit. Most of all understanding what they are saying.

In Afghanistan they speak Dari and Pashtu. By your own admission you speak Hindi and Urdu. I'm not a linguistic genius by any measure, but even I can see this is an apples and oranges comparison.

Appoligies to the mods for posting in a locked thread.

The CF have been employing a large number of interpreters in Afghanistan.  No urgent need for more.

If you have the right language skills for the place (Afghanistan - not India) then there might be work for you..... but, before this can happen, you must be enrolled, you must undergo training and you must be integrated in a unit that is destined to go over.... as Modmike has pointed out, your Urdu and Hindi won't be of much day to day use in Kandahar province - where we operate from.
