To be honest, I was surprised and impressed to see this in Vanity Fair (it was recommended by one of the Aviation Safety guys at work), but it's a great article about the Air France crash in 2009.  To the aircrew in the crowd (or anyone with an interest in these things), it delves quite a bit into CRM, automation and its new challenges.

A very good read.  Automation, indeed, but so too, culture.  Asiana in San Francisco was another example of culture influencing the outcome of an aviation event.
