All Things AB Separatism (split fm Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???)

But would anyone really notice a PEI Separatist movement?
That's the whole point... Nobody would notice until all the sleeper agents through the rest of Canada activate when they hear the signal.

The signal is the start of the Saturday Night Hoedown:

Charlottetown nearly looked like Paris when CFCY decided to try a different song to start the Saturday Night Hoedown. Imagine what Islanders would do if they lost their status as a province...

Would Queen's Park ever allow a city of 3,025,647 ( July, 2022 ) self-governance?

And, Ottawa , and the other provinces, would also have to go along with it.

Even separating 243 square miles of real estate from a province of 415,518 square miles would require an amendment to the Constitution of Canada. The constitutional amendment would require resolutions from the House of Commons of Canada and the. Senate of Canada and resolutions from the legislative bodies of 7 of the provinces representing at least 50% of the population of Canada.

As far as Alberta politics are concerned, my mother and sister are eligible to vote in their elections.

I'm not. So, good luck to them whatever they decide.

Doug Ford would at least legitimately be able to still call himself Premier while running Metro Toronto…😁

It's bigger than Ford Nation.... < smile emoji

Self-governance would require approvals from,

1. The federal House of Commons
2. The Senate
3. The Ontario Legislative Assembly (which is highly unlikely to willingly vote to lose its largest tax base)
4. At least six other provincial legislatures representing at least 50% of the Canadian population.

If it's that hard for Canada's largest city to self govern, it's not easy to imagine Alberta being able to do likewise.

In the end, Toronto would never go for it. They would lose access to the province that pays for a lot of their transit, takes over their freeways pays for a good chunk in their services. Whining to the federal government might not be as successful.

Does Toronto get net positive funding from the province, or does the city tax burden (provincial income tax and PST) outstrip what they get?

No clue.

A lot of resource (mining) companies are headquartered in Toronto, meaning that's where the wealth gets reported, but that's not where the wealth was created.

FWIW, a hypothetical GTA separate province would definitely be a ‘have’ province and a significant net contributor in Equalization terms.

A hypothetical GTA separate province would be more populous than Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island , Saskatchewan , Alberta and British Columbia.

Fine, fine. But they can’t have more Senate seats than Alberta or there will be a war.

To break free from Queen's Park , consent from seven provincial legislatures, representing at least 50% of the Canadian population , would be required.

As Alberta is Canada's 4th largest province by population , with 5,101,050 people, without their consent , self governance for 243 square miles of real estate seems unlikely.
