Just want to know if anyone out there has done amphib ops lately and if so what did you use for drills?

We are doing amphib ops this year and while we have done all of the actual boat drills as per the patrolling pam, there is nothing in there about how to employ the boats, contact drills, beach recces, etc. If anyone can help me out, that would be great.  We have an upcoming ex where we will send a four man recce patrol to secure a beach/landing site. The platoons will follow once the beach is secure. This will be our first ex of this type of op.

Check out,

https://www.doctrine.usmc.mil/index.htm

also check out Marine Corps small boat companies, try to contact the training NCO

Info can be found in    B-GL-392-004/FP-001 chapt. 9. You may also want to try the pathfinder precis.

Cheers

Engineers typically worry about the beach recce (both because we have the inland divers and because we own the boats & know the requirments of a landing site).  You will also find that engineers typically control most crossing operations.

When I was in 2VP we trained with USMC in Camp Lejeune, NC and beleive me the US Marines have the kit and doctrine to do amphibious ops properly... Wish we had some of that kit..
