"Canada has only bout 60 STRYKERS and they are MGS. The funny thing is most of them are built in Canada shiped to the US and now were buying them from the US does anyone alse think its funny?"

I know jack ___ about this stuff, so can anyone tell me whats wrong with this if anything?

This little voice in the back of my head is saying he‘s wrong, but i dont know enough to criticize.

They haven‘t been purchased yet. The order is still on hold. They are still going through trials and are still having problems with it. It‘s a POS and everyone knows it.

Okey...Someone should have answered this at the very start. Yes, they are made in London, Ontario, at GM Diesel.

There‘s an interesting article in the Feb Issue (Vol 11, Issue 2) of "Esprit de Corps" blasting the Stryker purchase...

The Stryker is getting bad press everywhere. In major US Military publications and on Military internet sites the Stryker is being trashed. Franko and I both know people who went down to do trials on the LAV AG (first version of Stryker MGS) and it failed misserably. It is an item being pushed by politicans and business to keep certain sectors of Canadian industry alive. It is disheartening to see the military betrayed for the sake of business.

You could easily take a Stryker out of commission with a burst from an old 12,7 mm (50. Cal) soviet DShKM machine gun. I think light armoured vehicled are useless, suitable only for police or peacekeeping duties, but on the other hand, Canada does not need anything else.

I don‘t think that to be the case. Whether doing peacekeeping or war fighting, the required equipment still has to be able to do the job ( defeat the enemy and keep the crew alive) regardless of the job.

what happens when a peacekeeping mission goes sour? Many peacekeeping missions have been hostile, Yugoslavia is a good example. Id rather be prepared for the worst, rather than be sitting behind some vehicle with tin foil for armour when the ___ hits the fan

Think "Ross Rifle"...

what about the lsvw?

The big question is:

If you can‘t train for war...how can you train for peacekeeping?

If you aren‘t willing to escalate the means of force to ensure a stable peace for the greater good of the mission, what‘s to prevent the opposing side from starting all over again?

I recently went to a Dutch camp in the southern portion of Bosnia and they have Leopard 2A5‘s ready to deploy. Looks as though they are willing to back up the peace treaty with a sizable force if need be, what of Canada?

LAVs and Coyote‘s are fine for patrolling...what about a fire fight? Can they do the job? No one knows yet because they haven‘t been involved in combat yet.

Not exactly true..

The Americans have been using LAV 25 for years now and have deployed them into combat. They now have Stryker family of vehicles deployed to Iraq and they are performing quite well. I think the ‘word is out‘ on the LAV and Coyote‘s effectiveness.
