Application Occupation Preference

Hello,

I am applying to join the CAF and the careers that I was interested in (Intelligence Operator and Met Tech) do not show up in the Occupation Preference tab. I saw on another thread that it's due to that career being filled up for the fiscal year.

My question is, should I wait until the next fiscal year (April) to submit my application or am I able to add in the career during the application process? I know the application can take a long time to process, so if the portal allows it, I would like to submit my application now and then add in the career when it becomes available.

Also saw on another thread that you have to wait 4 years to VOT to a different trade, so it's not recommended to join in a career you do not prefer just to get in. Is that still correct?

You can't start an application to a trade that's closed.

Do not apply to a trade just to get in the door and then think you can move to another trade. It's a waste of everyone's time, including yours. You're not owed a VOT and whatever trade you accept an offer in is the one you should expect to complete your entire contract working at.
