Application Question RE Cadet Service

OK, so I'm giving serious consideration to applying under DEO.  Since I am in a rather specialized field, my skills are in great demand for the CF.  On the application, where it says Cadet Service, I am tempted to leave it blank, EVEN THOUGH I have some RCAC service 25 year ago.  Why?  To speed up the applicaiton process--I'm worried that the CF request for Cadet records will unduly delay things.  Your thoughts?

If you're so super skilled, I'm sure the CF will fall all over themselves to get your Cadet records and get you working soon. As a person with some ethics and sense of professional pride, I'd probably want to put Cadet service down, unless you're ashamed of it.

Put it down; there are actually courses that will earn you some time-served ... if you did those courses. There's a thread on here somewhere already listing those courses out.

As of 2 years ago your cadet records were destroyed at 15+ years. Unless there was a significant incident in them. So unless you have a copy there will be nothing to find beyond the cover sheet ( who, what, where, when)

Even if your records were still around it is not the responsibility of the CFRC/D to hunt them down it is the responsiblilty of the applicant if they want any credit for the cadet service.  So Relax.

One of the major reasons that cadet service is important is depending on your time with cadets, rand achieved and national level courses you completed you could be eligible for a Incentive pay Category (IPC) of 6 months. That means you earn your first year pay incentive after six months which is close to a 6 K raise early. Cadet time is counted for both Reg F and Res F applicants and is granted by the CO of the CFRC. It can only be done at time of enrolment.

As others have said, you would have to submit your records yourself so I can't imagine any delay in the processing of your application resulting.  I would suggest answering the question honestly.

Until cadet records were computerized a few years ago, the only record of your cadet service would have been held at the local unit.  Retention policies for those records have changed from time to time over the years, but the current policy is to destroy the record when the former cadet turns 25.  However, it's possible that your old unit hasn't done this yet, and you'd lose nothing by contacting the CO to ask.  (As recently as last summer, my unit had dead files stretching back to the 1960s.)  If you tell me what unit you served in I'll give you the CO's e-mail address.

Today, even when the paper file has been destroyed there is still a computer record of every cadet.  I don't know what the long-term plan is for retention of these.
